1.1 Introduction
The control-identical NC-programming station SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate is a
product owned by Siemens AG Sector Digital Factory. SinuTrain simulates a SINUMERIK
840D sl controller with user interface SINUMERIK Operate on your PC.

1.2 What’s new?

- Based on SINUMERIK CNC-SW package 4.5 SP6 HF3
- Integration of multiple SINUMERIK CNC-SW packages in one UI

1.3 Scope of Delivery

The software is delivered on a DVD.

1.4 Hardware Requirements

Processor: 2 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
Hard disk:
- 3.3 GB for complete installation with all languages
- 1.2 GB for minimal installation (language English)
Additional disk space is required when specific machine models are to be created. Printing is
possible on all printers supported by your operating system that are able to print graphics.

1.5 Software Requirements

SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate is a 32-bit application released for the following operating
systems:

2.1 How to install SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate

SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate is installed by a guided setup.

Please close all running applications before starting the setup from the delivered DVD.

Remark:
The software release SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate 4.5 Ed.3 is an independent product
and can be installed parallel to existing older SinuTrain versions.

2.2 How to remove SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate

Removal of SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate is based on the standard Windows
uninstallation method.
Workflow:
1. Please select Start  Control Panel from the Windows Start menu.
2. Click “Uninstall a program” in the category “Programs”.
“Programs and Features” will be active.
3. Choose “SinuTrain SINUMERIK CNC-SW 840D sl 4.5 SP6 HF3” from the list of
installed programs.
4. Click “Uninstall”.
5. Choose “SinuTrain Workbench 1.2” from the list of installed programs.
6. Click “Uninstall”.

Remark:
After uninstallation the following paths will still have user specific contents of SinuTrain,
which can be reused when reinstalling the software:

3.1 User Rights

To install and uninstall SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate administrator privileges are
required. Running the software without administrator privileges is possible.

3.2 PDF-Viewer
The product delivery of SinuTrain SINUMERIK Operate contains documents in PDF-format,
which are installed during setup. The delivery of SinuTrain does not contain software to
visualize PDF-documents. To read, print or search in PDF-documents adequate Software
needs to be installed separately.

3.3 Support for OpenGL

If your graphics card does not support OpenGL, it is necessary to install a driver of your
graphics card vendor. Please check for support with your graphics card vendor.
If problems with visualization occur, an alternative is to deactivate hardware acceleration of
your graphics card.

Workflow:
1. Select Start  Control Panel
2. Choose “Adjust screen resolution” in the category “Appearance and Personalization”
3. Click the link “Advanced settings”
4. Select tab “Troubleshoot”
5. Deactivate “Hardware acceleration” (if available)

4 Known Restrictions
 When starting a machine model in SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate the first time,
according to the settings made in your software firewall (e.g. Windows Firewall, see
picture 1), messages may appear which ask you to allow some needed background
processes to communicate. You have to allow this communication (click button “Allow
access”), otherwise SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate may not work properly.
It is necessary to make sure that the used firewall allows ip communication for the
following processes in order to make SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate work properly:

The mentioned paths correspond to an installation of SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate
in C:\Program Files.

 The usage of security software, like active virus-scanning software, may cause several
problems while working with SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate on the PC. For example,
in case of error no SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate licences are useable. To disable
the security software while working with SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate solves the
problem.
Note: Typical virus-scanning software, which is used in a commercial environment, has
been tested for compatibleness. An overview about tested virus scanner can be found at
http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/19577116. We cannot make a
general statement regarding other virus scanners.

  Other software packages installed to your PC might influence SinuTrain for SINUMERIK
Operate. The Siemens Industry Support FAQ pages
(http://support.automation.siemens.com) give an overview of known issues with other
software packages.

 Some components of the software SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate use the Qt class
library. Other installed software products, which are using a previous version of the Qt
class library, may affect SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate. In case of an error it is
recommended to remove the appropriate software product from the pc.

 When installing SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate via a connected network, errors
might occur due to required software updates of some system software components. It is
recommended to install SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate only from a local drive.

 Installing SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate to a folder containing mutated vowels (e.g.
ä, ö, ü) or special characters (e.g. #) might cause instabilities.

 The usage of SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate machine configuration is not possible, if
the software is used with a PC, which contains mutated vowels (e.g. ä, ö, ü) or special
characters in the pc name.

 The usage of SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate on operating system installations with
language specific symbols (e.g. Chinese) for directories, computer names or login
names might be restricted. It is recommended to use SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate
only on operating systems, which are not using language specific symbols (also for
computer name and login).

 When activating a channel in SINUMERIK Operate (e.g. configuration of MD10010

$MN_ASSIGN_CHAN_TO_MODE_GROUP) a warm boot of the machine configuration
via “Machine”  “Restart” is required.

 When using the SINUMERIK Operate function “Simult. Recording” and the view of the
part which is created will be rotate during drawing, representation errors are possible. It
is recommended to rotate the view after the part creation is finished.

 While using the SINUMERIK Operate function “Simult. Recording” with complex
machining programs, presentation errors will be possible during the machining. It is
recommended to check the results with the SINUMERIK Operate function “Simulation” in
case of suspicion of presentation errors.

 When using the SINUMERIK Operate function “Simult. Recording”, representation errors
in turning machines are possible after finishing.

 If you use SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate in a virtualization software environment (like
VMWare®), representation errors of SINUMERIK operate functions “Simulation” and “Simult.
Record.” will be possible. It is recommended to disable the 3D graphics acceleration in the
virtualization software.

 If it is necessary for you to use a great computational accuracy (e.g. 8 decimal places), a
communication failure alarm may occur in the SINUMERIK operate screen. To use a
great computational accuracy, it’s necessary to assign the display machine data 51000
$MNS_DISP_RES_MM (display resolution) a higher value (e.g. 4).

 While working with SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate, the NUM-key should be inactive.

  No compensation data will be used while converting a series commissioning archive to a
SinuTrain for SINUMERIK Operate machine configuration. The data of the following
compensation types are affected:

- Quadrant error compensation

- Measuring system compensation
- Interpolatory compensation (sag compensation)
