Congurency

Two plane figures are congruent if they exactly fit one over the other and have the same size and shape. There are four rules for determining if triangles are congruent: SSS, SAS, AAS, and RHS. The document provides examples of triangles that are congruent based on each of the four rules and an exercise involving identifying congruent triangles and their corresponding rules.

Topic# Congruency

Two plane figures are congruent if they exactly fit one over the other.
They must have same size and shape.

Congruent triangles
Two triangles are congruent if they satisfy one the given four conditions.

1. ( SSS Rule ) When three sides of two triangles are equal.

Since AC = DE, BC = EF, AB = DE so ( SSS Rule )

2. ( SAS Rule ) When two sides and the included angle of two triangles are equal.

Since GI = JL, IH = LK, GIH = JLK so ( SAS Rule )

3. ( AAS Rule ) When two angles and corresponding side of two triangles are equal.

Since MO = PR, OMN = RPQ, MNO = PQR so ( SAS Rule )

4. ( RHS Rule ) when right angle hypotenuse and one side of both triangles are equal.

Since TS = VX, TU = XW, TSU = XVW, so ( SAS Rule )

Exercise

1. Identify the congruent triangles with reasons if they are congruent write ,
if they are not congruent .

(a) (b)

(c) (d)

(e) (f)

(g) (h)

2. Copy and complete in ABC and ADC,

AB    
BC    
AC    
ABC    
So
BAC    
ABC    

3. In diagram AOB and COD are straight lines and AO = OB, CO = DO

(a) Name the congruent triangles and state the case of congruency.

(b) Write down the pair of equal angles.
