Part B
Ar*wer all questians.
Each qu,estinn canizs 5 marks.
6. Discuss the impact effect on bridges due to IRC Class A loading.
7. Define shells of revolution and shells of translation.
8. Briefly explain loads on roof truss.
9. Explain element of plate girder with a neat sketch.
10. Explain the design principles for composite bridges.
(6x5=25marks)
Part C
Answer all questian s.
Each questian carries 12 marks.
11. Design a reinforced concrete box culvert having a plear vent way of 3m x 3m. The super imposed
dead load on the culvert is 12081 KN/m2. The live load on culvert is 60 KN/mz. Density of soil at
site is 18KN/m2 angle of repose is 30' adopt M30 grade concrete mix and Fe415 grade steel.

13. Discuss the various classifications of shells.

Or
L4. Design a reinforced concrete shell with a circular directrix with the following dimension. Distance
between the traverse 30 rn, radius of shell : z m, thickness of shell 60 mm, semi central angle
60', LL is 80 N/mmz, use Ib6 concrete aud Fe415 steel.
Desiga a fink type rooftruss for an industrial building, given the following data. Overa[ lengt]r is
48m, overall width is 16.5 m, width of c/c-of roof column is 16 m., height of column is ll
n and
roofing material is asbestos cement sheets.

0r
Design a tubular steel truss to suit the following data: span of truss: 16m,
\pes of truss : fink
truss, Roof cover: GC sheeting, spacing of roof trusses: 4.bm, wind pressure : l.0kN/m2. st€el
tubular sections confirming to IS : 1161-1976 are available for use. Draw the elevation ofthe roof
truss.
17. A welded plate girder has to be designed to carry a superimposed load of 100 kN per metre.
The
span ofthe girder is 22 m. Design the flange plates ofthe plate girder check the stress in the
flange
plates.

Or
Design a gantry girder to be used in an industrial building carrying a manually operated overhead
traveling crane for the following data :-
Crane capacity-2O0kN ;

Self-weight of the crane girder excluding trolley-200kN

Self-weight of the trolley, electric motor, hook, etc.--4OkN
Approximate rrinimum approach of the crane hook to the gantry girder_1.20m
Wheel base-3.5m
C/C distance between gantry rails-16rn
C/C distance between columns (span of gantry girdeiF-gm

slab is 250 mm thick inclusive of wearing coat. The foot paths are provided
on their sides of
carriage way. The cross girder are provided at 3 m center the stringers are
spaced at 2.48 m ctc.
the spacing between the rnain girder is 9.80 m determine the maximum sections

20. In a plate girder through type bridge carr5ring a single broad gauge track, the cross girder are
provided at 4m centres. The stringers are spaced 2m from c./c. Using the
data given below, design
the cmss girders.
Spacing between the main girder = 4 m
