Essay #1

Whether you are a student, a blue-collar worker or just a gamer the best computer a person can

buy is a desktop computer because it is far more superior than a laptop when it comes to

performance, and reliability.

A good desktop computer is better than a laptop because they are more powerful. What makes

them better and more powerful is the availability to choose the internal components of the

computer. In a laptop you can upgrade some of the internals, but it is not as effective as

upgrading a desktop. You can customize a desktop for any type of work you need. For example,

if you are a graphic designer you can build a desktop that is specifically used for graphic design.

Some of the most popular desktops today are gaming computers, they are built to handle the

huge amount of power a video game needs so that the image looks good and the game runs with

no lag time.

If you are not worried about price Alienware’s Aurora R10 is considered one of the best multi-

use desktops in the market today. Starting at $1000 for a base model and ranging up to $3000 the

Aurora R10 is listed as a gaming computer but it can handle pretty much anything you put it

trough. With a sleek and futuristic design, the R10 is running incredibly powerful components

that allow it to outperform other high-end desktops. The Aurora R10 has been tested by

PcMag.com using benchmarks which if you don’t know are stress test used to simulate real

world heavy use, the R10 scored in the top 3 on the productivity and storage test, it outperformed

every other pc in the video editing and graphics test, and even though it is sold as a gaming pc

the R10 surprisingly had above average scores when it was tested on various high performance

games.

Even though desktops are better than laptops for many reasons, there are still some drawbacks

that make a laptop better than the desktop. With a laptop you can pick it up put it in your bag and

go anywhere and still be able to use it, but a desktop is not portable because you need a power

source to use it and some desktops do not have the ability to use Wi-Fi. With the Aurora R10 you

get a stock computer that will last you for years without needing to upgrade any components.

Another drawback is the price of the desktops compared to the prices of laptops. The average

price of a regular entry level store-bought desktop is between $500 to $1000, and a high-end

professional desktop will cost you over $2000. When you think about the lifespan of a desktop

compared to a laptop, the desktop easily beats the laptop. Since laptops are designed to be

compact and portable it causes the laptops internal components to be really close which causes

the laptop to generate more heat and less air flow and leads to the faster deterioration of the

parts. However, in desktops the amount of airflow and space is vastly greater than that of a

laptop. Desktops have one huge advantage over a laptop when it comes to cooling because in a

desktop you can either have multiple fans cooling the parts or you can have a water-cooled

system which uses circulating water to keep the computer at a constant cool temperature.

Even though desktop computers can be more advanced than laptops statistics show that laptop

sales surpass the desktops sales, because the biggest drawback with a desktop is the portability.

Most people in today's fast-pace life use laptops for their work or for school because it is so easy

to do the work anywhere you can find Wi-Fi, and as computer technology advances laptops are

becoming more and more advanced and will soon be as good as desktops in performance.. The

type of person who uses a desktop are people who do a lot of work from home or those that use a

desktop for video games. Since many companies had to shut down in 2020 due to covid-19 the

sales for laptops and computer accessories has surged since many people have started working

from home. Unfortunately, desktop sales have declined this year due to the impact that Covid-19

has had on the supply and demand said research director for Gardner Mikako Kitagawa in a

recent article from CNBC. Since china manufactures a lot of desktops and components for many

companies the impact Covid-19 has caused has created a short supply on parts, which leads to

low sales.

If you are looking for a new computer, you should think about the work you will be doing so you

can determine the type of software and hardware that will best suit you. With the Aurora R10

you get a computer that will do everything and will keep working for years. One of the good

things about desktops is that as new technology is released you can always upgrade the parts of

the computer. But since Covid-19 has impacted the production of computers and parts you might

want to hurry up and purchase it.
