Course Name/Code: EL 105 – Language Learning Materials Development

Course Credits: 3 Units
Course Description: This course develops knowledge and skills of students in demonstrating knowledge of issues pertaining to instructed English language acquisition and
learning focusing on suitable approaches and resources through the principled spoken and interactive presentation of appropriate language resources so
as to maximise language development opportunities for young learners. This will also help students show an ability to analyse, select and adapt English
language learning resources, and be able to refer to appropriate resources so as to select and deploy pedagogically principled strategies in order to
achieve specific learning objectives. The course provides necessary knowledge, skills in identifying instructional goals, conduct instructional analysis,
design, development, implementation and evaluation phases of instructional design. Throughout the course, a set of outputs related with each phase of
instructional design will be created by the students.
Contact Hours/Week: 6 hours/week
Prerequisite: None
Course Objectives/Outcome: At the end of the term, the students will be able to:
1. distinguish different principles and standards in the preparation of learning materials;
2. analyze various features and characteristics of different instructional materials used in language learning;
3. conduct analysis on the needs and instructional goals of using learning materials;
4. develop instructional strategies and learning materials; and
5. design and conduct microteaching using appropriate language learning materials.
