WORK PROCEDURE FOR EARTH WORK

EXCAVATION
1.1 Resources to be used.
a. Machineries
i. Mini Backhoe
ii. Plate Compactor

iii. Wheel barrows
iv. Showel
v. Leveling Instrument
vi. Theodolite
vii. Staff

ii. Technical Supervisor
iii. Unskilled Labour

1.2 Method of Excavation


a. Setting Out
 A setting out will be done for every excavation using Theodolite by the engineer
with assistants.
 The working drawings will be used for setting out work.
 Setting out will be marked using timber pegs, strings and lime mark on soil.
 Levels will be maintained with “…..katha ”
 Setting out will be checked by Engineer before excavation.

b. Excavation
 Mini backhoe will be utilized for the excavation - See attached figure 01
 The excavation depth will be checked using leveling instrument and the staff by
the technical supervisor.
 Excavation sequence see attached figure No 02.
 Bottom of excavation will be leveled manually to the required level and compact
using plate compactor.
 Side of excavation will be kept at 45 degree angle up to 1m depth wherever
possible.

c. Protection
 The excavation area will be demakated using barricade tape stretched on 12mm
steel bars, around the perimeter.
 Sides of excavation will be protected using polythene sheets laid and fixed to the
soil using steel nails.
 Excavated soil will be used for protection for rainy time around the building.
 Excavated material will be stacked near by area for back filling.

1.3 BACK FILLING


 After getting prior approval from engineer, existing soil will be used for backfill.
