Chapter 3 Dynamics

This document contains a physics exercise on dynamics with 7 multiple choice and short answer questions. It asks students to define terms like inertia, momentum, force, friction, and centripetal force. It also asks students to explain the differences between mass and weight, action and reaction forces, and sliding and rolling friction. Finally, it asks students to explain Newton's first law of inertia with examples and relate force to changes in an object's momentum.

Q3.1: Encircle the correct answer form given choices:
Answer keys:

Q3.2: Define the following terms:

Inertia: pg-58 Momentum: pg-59 Force: pg-58 Force of friction: pg-72
Centripetal force: pg-77

Q3.3: What is the difference between?

Mass and weight:
Mass Weight
 Mass of a body is the quantity of  The weight of the body is equal
matter possessed by a body to the force with which earth
 It is scaler quantity. attracts it.
 It is measured by physical  It is a vector quantity and is
balance. towards the center of the earth.
 It remains same everywhere  It is measured by spring balance.
 It does not change with change  It does not remains same at all
of place. places because the value of ‘g’
 Unit of mass is kilogram(kg) does remain same at all places.
 It is a base quantity  Unit of weight is Newton (N).
 It is calculated by using the  It is derived quantity.
formula F=ma  It is calculated by using the
formula: w=mg

Action and reaction:

Action is the applied force while the reaction is produced due to action force. Both forces are
equal in magnitude but opposite in direction. They act on two different bodies.
Sliding friction and rolling friction:
Sliding friction rolling friction:
 Frictional force experienced by  rolling friction experienced by
the body when a body slides the body when a body rolls over
over the another body the other body
 It is greater than rolling friction  it is less than sliding friction

Q3.4: what is law of inertia? Pg: 60 (write answer with examples)

Q3.5: why is it dangerous to travel on the roof of the bus?
The friction or drag force due to air acting on upper part of the body of a person standing on roof of a
running bus, tries to turn over which is dangerous while the lower part of the body is at rest with respect
to the roof of the bus.

Q3.6: why does the passengers moves outward when bus takes a turn?
When a bus is taking turn then it is moving in a circular path. So, passengers sitting inside the bus
experience the centrifugal force as the reaction of centripetal force of the bus moving the circular path.

Q3.7: how can you relate a force with the change of momentum of body? Pg-67
