Researchers at a university in the US have recently been tracking how [3] social network is being used as
a tool for connecting potential donors with those in need of an organ. The team studied almost a hundred
Facebook® pages [4] kidney donations and of these, twelve percent reported receiving a kidney transplant
and thirty percent stated that potential donors had stepped [5] to be tested for compatibility.
The research findings have also raised ethical concerns, [6]. Three percent of the pages received offers to
sell kidneys, mostly from people in developing countries. Would-be donors typically [7] for US$30,000 to
US$40,000, even though selling organs is illegal in most countries. In addition, very few pages [8] the risks
of organ donation.
