1000 MM 1500 MM: Check For Crack Width As Per Is 456-2000

The document calculates crack width for two beam sections according to IS 456-2000. For the first beam, with a width of 1000mm and depth of 1500mm, the calculated crack width is 0.044mm which is less than the allowable 0.25mm. For the second beam, with a width of 300mm and depth of 800mm, the calculated crack width is 0.239mm which is also less than the allowable 0.25mm. Therefore, the crack widths for both beams satisfy the requirements of IS 456-2000.

CHECK FOR CRACK WIDTH AS PER IS 456-2000

BEAM SECTION :-
WIDTH (b) = 1000 mm e1
DEPTH (D)= 1500 mm
d-x fs/Es D-x
EFFECTIVE DEPTH (d) = 1415 mm d D
CLEAR COVER = 75 mm x
Ast = 3401 mm²
TOTAL COVER = 85 mm fc/Ec
GRADE OF CONCRETE (fck ) = M 35 Strain Diagram

ELASTIC MODULUS OF CONCRETE (Ec) = 5000X SQRT(fck) = 29580.3989 N/mm²

ELASTIC MODULUS OF CONCRETE (Es) = 200000 N/mm²
MODULAR RATIO (m) = 6.76
MAXm MOMENT (Ms) = 16.0 Tm

FROM DIAGRAM, e1 =(fs/Es)x(D-x)/(d-x) ……………………….( 1 )

Now, FROM THE METHOD OF THE TRANSFORMED SECTION, b*x*x/2 = m*As*(d-x)
So,
x= 233.14 mm (PUTTING THE VALUE OF b, m , As ,& d )

fs = Ms/(As*(d-x/3)) = 35.18 N/mm^2

FROM THE EQUATION (1) , e1 = 0.0002 mm

e2 (DUE TO STRAIN HARDENING) = 1.5*b*(D-x)*(a-x)/{3*Es*As*(d-x)}

TAKING, D=a= 1500 mm e2 = 0.000001 mm < e1

SO THERE WILL BE CRACK. (REF. APPENDIX F OF IS 456)

CRACK WIDTH = 3*acr*ξm/{1+2*(acr-cmin)/(D-x)} (REF. APPENDIX F OF IS 456) ……. ( 2 )

HERE, ξm = e1-e2 = 0.000188 mm (REF. APPENDIX F OF IS 456)

acr = Sqrt[(R/4)²+ec²]-dia/2 (REF. APPENDIX F OF IS 456)

###
No. of bars per layer 10
FROM THE EQUATION (2) , BAR DIA. Main bar = 20 mm
BAR DIA. Stp. bar = 0 mm
CRACK WIDTH = 0.044 mm < 0.25, Hence ok ec =
cmin+dia/2
85 mm

R =b-2*cmin-dia
R 90 mm
