COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is a 4th year senior level math credit course
designed for students who need to refresh core mathematics skills prior to further study.
It is recommended that students who have not scored at least a 16 on their ACT Math
assessment take this course to better prepare for post-secondary study. This course
does NOT fulfill the remedial math requirement required by colleges. SAILS will be
required at the college unless you retake the ACT and score at least a 19 on the math.
There is no end of course state test for Bridge Math. (Prerequisite: Algebra II).

Course prerequisite: Algebra 1 Credit/Geometry Credit/Algebra 2 Credit

Grading Scale: A 100 – 93

B 92 – 85
C 84 – 76
D 75 – 70
F 69 & below

Grading: Averages are calculated by taking the total points earned by the students and
dividing that total by the total points possible for that grading period. Final exam will
also count as a percentage of the final average.

Daily Grades: Daily grades may include bell work, class work, or homework.
Point range: 5 – 20
Quiz Grades: Quizzes may be announced or unannounced.
Point range: 10 – 50
Test Grades: Tests are given about every 3 to 4 days.
Point range: 90 – 150
Notebook Tests: Notebook tests are given in place of notebook checks. Notebook
checks will occur on the last day of each week.
Point value: 50

Notebook Requirements:
 You need dividers
 Loose leaf notebook paper.
 Other instructions will be given in class as to the organization of the notebook.

Grading guidelines:
1. There will be one or more tests given per chapter/unit. Tests will range in point
values between 90 – 100 points each. These tests are announced two or more
days in advance.
2. Class work is assigned every day. Each class work assignment is worth 5 – 20
points. Class work is the primary source of review and practice for the tests. It
is vitally important to your success in Bridge Math.
3. Quizzes will be given randomly to check for concept understanding. Quizzes are
unannounced and vary in point value. Quizzes are often in the form of an exit
ticket.
4. Each student is required to keep a notebook. All notes, examples, homework,
class work, quizzes, tests, bell work, and review should be kept in the notebook.
The notebook check will be given as a notebook test. The notebook test are
given weekly so it is important to keep your notebook organized at all times
and to bring it to class every day.
5. At the end of the grading period, grades are calculated in the online grading
program. Students and parents are encouraged to use the online grading
program to see progress and final averages.
6. Students may receive special rewards (we will discuss in class). To receive
these rewards students must meet the following criteria:
 Perfect attendance
 No tardies
 No check-in/No check-outs
 100% effort
 Good & respectful behavior

Make-up Policy: It is the student’s responsibility to find out what he/she missed and to
turn it in to the teacher within three days of the date of absence. In case of extended
illness or special circumstances, special arrangements may be made for make-up work,
but it is the student’s responsibility to make such a request before or after class.
Late work may be accepted but the grade will most likely be lowered based on the
number of days the assignment is late. Make-up tests will be made up before or after
school (never during class time).

Math Fee: A math fee of $5 has been approved by the Tullahoma City School Board.
The fee will help purchase extra supplies used in class. Although the fee is not
mandatory, THS relies on the payment of these fees to help maintain adequate
educational services.

Online Grades & Attendance: The online grade book program will be used in the
class. It is available to students and parents/guardians to check grades and class
period attendance and has 24-hour access. Access information will be sent home.
Referring to the THS online grade/attendance is expected for identifying missing
assignments, grades, and attendance. Students and parents should check
Schoology often. Instructional materials are available upon request.

Attendance: This is the most important factor in a math class. When a student is
absent, the content missed directly effects their ability to keep up with the material being
taught. It is entirely up to the student to learn the missed material. Tutoring may be
necessary.

Tutoring: Please come and talk to me about available times for tutoring. Tutoring for
the spring semester will most likely be Monday and Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. before
school as I will be teaching Motlow dual enrollment classes at 6:55 a.m. on Tuesday
and Thursday. No tutoring after school or on Fridays.

Backpacks: No backpacks are allowed in class. Students should bring textbook,

notebook, pencil, and other supplies to class. Students will NOT be allowed to leave
class to retrieve any items. Any backpack in the room will be placed in the hallway;
no passes to lockers.

Cell Phones: Each student will be assigned a number for placement of cell phones in
an organizer beside the door. I will use cell phone placement to check attendance.
Any cell phone seen or heard outside the organizer will be confiscated (NO
EXCEPTIONS). No cell phones will be allowed outside of the cell phone organizer
during class. Any cell phone seen, heard, or used after the tardy bell or before the
dismissal bell will be confiscated and sent to the office with a referral. See the student
handbook for consequences.

Procedures and/or Rules:

1. Arrive to class early and be in your seat, with materials out and ready to start
class when the bell rings. If you are tardy, please enter the room quietly and
place your excuse on my desk.
2. No Cell Phones. Can’t have them!
3. The teacher dismisses you not the bell. (Do not pack up prior to the bell and
no lining up at the door.)
4. No food or drinks allowed in the classroom. (Water bottles are allowed.)
5. Be respectful! Do NOT talk when the teacher is talking. Do NOT talk when a
student is asking a question. Raise your hand if you have a question.
6. No cheating. I can’t help you if I don’t know what you truly don’t know. Giving
answers or help on quizzes and/or tests is also cheating. Please keep your

papers covered. A zero will be given for the assignment or test in which the
student has cheated on. If you get caught cheating, just own it.
7. A student center is provided. Paper, pencils, and other materials will be
provided. Please return borrowed materials. Do NOT abuse this generosity. My
supplies will eventually run out. This center is also where student work will be
returned.
8. Please take notes and copy examples. If I write it, then you should write it.
9. Stay in your seat. If you need to get up, then please ask the teacher first.
10. Please ask questions (relevant to math) during the lesson so that you can
understand the concept being taught.
11. Sleeping in class will not be allowed. (If you sleep, this will count as an
absence and will be noted as such. I can’t teach you if you are asleep.)
12. Please do not throw anything. (Safety reasons)
13. Please do not use profanity or damage any property.
14. Other classroom procedures will be discussed during the first week of

Teacher Comments and Commitment: I want all students and parents/guardians to

understand that I am here to lead and coach students toward the successful completion
of this course. I believe in students taking ownership of their learning as I take
responsibility for the instruction, remediation, practice, and skill building. I
pledge to do everything I can to make sure every student is successful in this course.
All I ask is that the students attend school, be prepared every day, and realize
that they are ultimately responsible for their own learning and their own success
or their own failure. We don’t want failure to be an option. I will do my best and I ask
students to do their best as well.
