MODULE-1
Q1. Define Soft Skills. Why are soft skills important?
Ans. Soft skills are a combination of people skills, social skills, communication skills, character
or personality traits, attitudes, career attributes, social intelligence and emotional
intelligence quotients, among others, that enable people to navigate their environment, work well
with others, perform well, and achieve their goals with complementing hard skills.
Soft skills are interpersonal skills which are used to describe your approach to life, work, and
relationships with other people. Unlike hard skills, these are not professional job-specific skills
like accountancy, graphics designing, etc. Soft skills are your unique selling point which gives
you a competitive edge over others in the workplace and in life.
Soft skills are very important as Soft skills are used every day at work for interacting with other
people, negotiating to win a new contract, presenting a new idea to colleagues, networking for a
new job, and so. Thus developing these soft skills will helps us to win more business and
accelerate our career progression.
Outside of the office, soft skills such as communication are used to build friendship groups and
meet potential partners. You might be negotiating the price of your new house renovation, or
mentoring your neighbours children on the weekend. Hence Soft skills are useful both in our
professional and personal lives.
Q2. What do we mean by decision making? What are the 7 steps of decision making?
Ans. Decision making is the process of making choices by identifying a decision, gathering
information, and assessing alternative resolutions. Decision-making is the act of choosing
between two or more courses of action. In the wider process of problem-solving, decision-
making involves choosing between possible solutions to a problem. Decisions can be made
through either an intuitive or reasoned process, or a combination of the two.
Using a step-by-step decision-making process can help us to make more deliberate,
thoughtful decisions. The 7 steps are:
1. Forming
2. Storming
3. Norming
4. Performing
5. Adjourning
Ans. The self grooming is essential for women as well as men. The personal grooming shows
others that you are serious about the way you look and your appearance. You need to look
professional and crisp for business and other purposes. You will have the capacity to take up the
mantle of any work if your outward looks and propensities gain appreciations from individuals
around you. Self grooming is needed due to following:
Once you start working on personal grooming, you’ll inevitably notice a big change in yourself.
You’ll witness significant improvement in your self-confidence and self-esteem. Wrinkled
clothing does not render the right impression on the people. It reduces your self-confidence and
makes you conscious of yourself.
When you have a pleasing personality, you’ll be respected and appreciated by everyone. Your
attire, hairstyle, shoes, body language and everything that is associated with you are accountable
for improving your personality.
A well-groomed person inevitably looks different from the people who are not properly dressed.
Good dressing expresses professionalism. The right hairstyle gives a neat and polished look to
your face. A person with trimmed hair, immaculate suit and properly tied tie will naturally stand
out.
MODULE-2
Ans. Personality traits reflect people’s characteristic patterns of thoughts, feelings, and
behaviors. Personality traits imply consistency and stability—someone who scores high on a
specific trait like Extraversion is expected to be sociable in different situations and over time.
An individual’s behavior towards others, attitude, characteristics, mindset make his personality.
Personality development is defined as a process of enhancing one’s personality. Personality
development sessions guide an individual as to how he/she can develop his/her personality.
1. Openness to experience
Individuals with openness to experience are generally very active, have a tremendous
inclination towards creativity and aesthetics and listen to their heart i.e. follow their inner
feelings. Such individuals are generally open to new learnings, skill sets and experiences.
People who score high on openness are quite broadminded and modern in their outlook as
compared to individuals who score low on the same parameter. Such individuals are
conservative, reluctant to changes and have a traditional approach in life.
2. Conscientiousness
5. Neuroticism
Neuroticism is a trait where individuals are prone to negative thoughts such as anxiety,
anger, envy, guilt and so on. Such individuals are often in a state of depression and do not
how to enjoy life. They always look at the negative sides of life and find extremely
difficult to cope up with stress.
Q3. Name 5 pillars of personality development.
1. Self Introspection
2. Self assessment
3. Self Appraisal
4. Self Interrogation
5. Self Development
Q4. What are the advantages and disadvantages of self assessment?
Ans.
Advantages:
1. Self assessment allows students to see and reflect on their peers' assessment of their
contribution.
2. It focuses on the development of student's judgment skills.
3. It Reflects on Your Weaknesses.
4. A self-assessment gives you the chance to draw attention to your accomplishments.
Disadvantages:
1. Potentially increases lecturer workload by needing to brief students on the process as well
as on-going guidance on performing self evaluation.
2. If you and your manager are on different pages, it can make your performance review
stressful.
3. Objectivity Is Difficult
Ans. A 360 degree appraisal is a type of employee performance review in which subordinates,
co-workers, and managers all anonymously rate the employee.
