A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATH FOR GRADE IV
3rd Quarter
I. OBJECTIVE
At the end of a 50-minute period, the learners are expected to find the perimeter of triangles, squares and
rectangles.
( M4ME-IIIi-51)
II. SUBJECT-MATTER
Perimeter of Triangles, Squares and Rectangles.
a) Reference: CG page 125, TG pages 243-246
b) Materials: powerpoint presentation, pictures showing fractional parts
c) Process skills: adding and multiplying numbers mentally
d) Values Integration: Practicing healthy lifestyle
III. LEARNING TASK
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY
A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
1. Building Rapport
Let us pray. Rahim, please lead the prayer. Almighty Allah/God, …Amen.
Good Morning, children! Good Morning, teacher Sittie!
How are you today? We’re doing great!
That’s good to hear.
2. Checking of Attendance
Is everybody present, Era? Yes, teacher.
3. Checking of Assignment
Please get your assignment and exchange it (Learners will get their assignment and
with your seatmate for checking. exchange it with their seatmate for
checking.)
4. Review
Ask what unit of measurement and (Learners are expected to participate in
measuring tool is appropriate for the the activity.)
following.
-sides of the blackboard
-sides of handkerchief
-edge of a table
5. Drill Learners possible answer:
Conduct a drill on adding and multiplying
numbers mentally. 5+5 = 10 10+18=28
5+5 = ___ 10+18=___ 4x10 = 40 5x20=100
4x10 = ___ 5x20=___ 12+24=36 15x2=30
12+24=___ 15x2=___
6. Motivation
Show a plain handkerchief.
The shape is square.
What is the shape of this handkerchief?
Values Infusion: Yes, because we can use it to cover our
Do you carry your handkerchief every day? mouth or nose when we sneeze or
Why? What are the uses of a handkerchief? cough. Also, to protect us from air
pollution.
That’s right. We need handkerchief to
prevent us from getting sick because of air
pollution from the car or factories.
This time we shall learn more about shapes.
What other shapes do you know aside from
the square?
B. ENGAGEMENT
1. Presentation
Let the learners observe the following
objects:
a. A handkerchief (square)
b. A picture frame hanging in the
classroom (rectangle)
c. The blackboard (square)
d. The sides of the room (rectangle)
e. A neckerchief (triangle)
Encourage the learners to say something
about each object.
C. EXPLORATION
Developmental Activity
Before we proceed to our discussion. Let us have
a group activity.
a. Setting of Standards
G-et Along
R-espect others
O-n task behaviors
U-se quiet voices
P-articipate
S-tay in your group
b. Rubrics for the Activity
Correct answer – 10 pts
Delivery – 5 pts
Teamwork and Silence – 5 pts
c. Groupings
The teacher will group the learners into three
(3).
Assign different objects to each group. Let
the learners work together to find the
answers to the given activity following the
guide questions:
a. What is the measurement on its sides?
b. What is the total distance around the
figure?
c. How were you able to find the total
distance around the figure?
d. If you are going to find the distance
around the figure, how will you find it?
Group A : Handkerchief
Group B : Picture frame
Group C : Neckerchief
d. Perform the activity (Learners will perform the activity
You are given 10 minutes to perform the within 10 minutes)
activity.
D. EXPLANATION
Let the groups present/explain their outputs.
Process all their answers.
We had fun during the activity.
How did you find the activity? We got the sum of the measures of the
How were you able to find the answer? sides of the figure.
So, before we check your answers let’s have first
a discussion.
Lorena wants to stay fit and so she walks
around the park every day before going to
school. What is the distance that Lorena
covers every day?
How will you find the answer to the problem?
To solve for the problem, you add the
measurements of the sides of the park.
The park has four sides,
So,
55 m + 40 m + 65 m + 35 m = 195 m
So, Lorena walks a distance of 195 m every day.
This distance around the park is called
Perimeter. Yes teacher.
In your group activity, you added the
measurements of each sides of the figure to get
the total distance, right?
Basically, the total distance of the object you
were able to find is what we called Perimeter.
The perimeter of a closed figure is the distance
around the figure.
What figure is this? It’s a triangle.
15 cm 15 cm
15 cm
Let s be the length of one side of equilateral
triangle. If P is the perimeter of the triangle, then
P=s+s+s
= 15 cm + 15 cm + 15 cm
= 45 cm
What figure is this? It’s square.
15 cm
Let s be the length of one side of the square and
P be the perimeter of the square. Then,
P=s+s+s+s
= 15 cm + 15 cm + 15 cm + 15 cm
= 60 cm
What figure is this? 25 cm It’s a rectangle.
15 cm
Let L be the length and W be the width of a
rectangle. If P be the perimeter of the rectangle
then,
P = 2L + 2W.
= (2 x 25 cm) + (2 x 15 cm)
= 80 cm
E. GENERALIZATION
What is the formula in finding the perimeter of To find the perimeter of a polygon get
square, rectangle and triangle? the sum of the lengths or
measurements of its sides.
Figur Name Formula in
e finding its
perimeter
Square P=s+s+s+

F. APPLICATION
Use a ruler to find the perimeter in cm of the
following figures.
IV. EVALUATION
Direction: Find the perimeter of each figures.
