Exercise - Gas Calculation

1. The document provides information about a gas reservoir including its properties, composition, and separator conditions. It asks 6 questions related to calculating reservoir volumes, densities, gas properties at different conditions. 2. A late deadline of May 23rd at 1700 hrs is given for submitting answers to the questions. 3. The document contains a table showing the gas composition at reservoir conditions and after passing through the first separator.

EXERCISE

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION 23rd. MAY, 1700hrs. (Late submission will not be accepted)

Problem 1

A gas reservoir with a net pay of 150m and area of 133.27 km 2, has porosity of 25% and water
saturation of 15%. The gas composition is as shown on table below. Reservoir pressure and
temperature is 200 bar and 94 0C. Gas and water formation volume factor are 0.0067 m 3/ Sm3 and
0.98m3/Sm3 respectively at reservoir condition

A 1 mole sample of gas was taken to the laboratory for determining amount of condensate using two
stage separation process. First separator operates at 50 bar and 60 0C. After the gas passing through
the first separator its composition became as shown on third column of table below and 0.96774
moles remained in gas phase. Again the gas passed through second separator which operates at
standard condition. The condensate collected from second separator contains 0.01774 moles.

Note: density of air 1.22 kg/m3.

Questions

1. What is the reservoir bulk volume (in km3), surface hydrocarbon volume (in sm3 and in scf)
and surface water volume (in sm3 and in scf)?
2. What is the density of gas in the reservoir
3. What is the volume and density of gas at separator-1 conditions?
4. What is surface gas gravity if the stock tank oil has gravity of 41 API and molar mass of 166
kg/kgmole?
5. What is the oil gas ratio of this fluid in (sm 3/Msm3 and in STB/MMscf)?
6. What is the gas formation volume factor at first separator condition (m 3/sm3)?

Note: Use Kay's rule to calculate all pseudo component properties. The critical properties of C 7+ are
460.9 oC critical temperature and 17.44 bar critical pressure. Molar mass of C 7+ is 218 kg/ kgmole.

MMSCF = 1E6 SCF, Msm3=1E6 sm3
