This study aims to compare the motivation and job performance levels of non-academic staff between the University of Colombo and University of Sri Jayewardenepura in Sri Lanka. A descriptive research design was used where data was collected through structured questionnaires distributed to 220 respondents from both universities. Several motivation theories are discussed in the literature review. The results found that motivation levels were higher for the University of Sri Jayewardenepura compared to the University of Colombo. A moderate positive correlation was also found between motivation and job performance. The findings provide recommendations to improve employee motivation and performance in public sector organizations in Sri Lanka.
