Probability H.W.4 PDF

The document is a probability problem involving selecting 3 students at random from a class of 10 boys and 5 girls. The probability asked to find is the chance that the first and third students selected are the same sex, and the second is the opposite sex. The solution shows the probability calculations for the cases of boy-girl-boy and girl-boy-girl and sums them to get the total probability as 21/15.

Class-A-

Probability
H.W.4/A class has 10 boys and 5 girls.
Three students are selected from the class at random, one after
the other, from tree diagram, find the probability that:
The first and the third are of the same sex, and the second is of
the opposite sex.

Solution:

10 5 9
10 5 9 15 15 14 13
P(BGB) = 15 𝑥 14 𝑥 13 = 91 B G B

5 10 4
5 10 4 𝟐𝟎 15 14 13
P(GBG)= 15 𝑥 14 𝑥 13 = 𝟐𝟕𝟑 G B G

15 20 𝟓
P=P(BGB)+P(GBG)= 91 + 273 = 𝟐𝟏
