Complete the conversations with these pairs of words.
Department store/shoe store clothing store/ mall supermarket/bakery
post office/drugstore
1.A Do you want some food? I’m going to the supermarket now.
B No, thanks, but we need a cake for tomorrow so can you go to the bakery, too?
2. A I bought some clothes, a bag, and an umbrella from the big clothing store. I wanted
some shoes, too, but they didn’t have my size.
B Why don’t you try the new mall on Market Street?
3. A I don’t have a stamp for Mom’s birthday card. I need to go to the post office.
B Can you go to the drugstore for some medicine, too? I have a headache.
4. A I went to that new Department store for some jeans, but they were very expensive.
B Why don’t you go to the shopping shoe store? They have cheaper things there.
1.A Can I pay for these, please?
B I’m sorry, this register is closed now. You can pay at the register on the first floor.
A But you’re here! And I was in line for 15 minutes.
B Yes, but I’m not working now. Please go to a different register.
A That isn’t very helpful!

2. A That’s $125, please.


B Can I pay by card?
A No, I’m sorry, this register is cash only. The card machine isn’t working.
B Oh, no. I don’t have any cash.
A There is an ATM machine on the second floor. You can’t feet your money there.
