1.Definition
Electromagnetic Flowmeter is a mature, reliable, stable, high accuracy
and smart flow measuring instrument.
It’s used for measuring volume flow of conductive liquid. Because of its
unique advantage, nowadays, it’s widely used in industry application. For
example, corrosive medium such as acid, alkali, salt and various serous
fluid measurement.
2.Measuring Principle
The bilateral electrodes which fixed on the pipe will receive the sig
nal and transfer the induction electromotive force to converter thro
ugh cable. Then the converter will filter, enlarge, operate, convert
and figure out the flowrate and output electric current signal or pul
se signal which is in direct proportion to the flowrate.
3. Introduction of ALIA MAG
ALIA MAG Flowmeters are composed of transmitter and sensor in com
pact version or separate version.

4. Specification of ALIA MAG
• Flow Velocity range: 0 – 12 m/s; Measuring range can set by user.
• Accuracy: +/-0.2% (velocity>=0.5 m/s)
• Measuring pipe size: 2.5mm - 2000mm
• Bi-directional flow measurement function, so flow direction will not affect
measurement.
• Adapt strong corrosive medium and strong abrasiveness medium
• Measuring will not be affected by fluid density, viscosity, temperature,
pressure and conductivity.
• No movable & choke-flow parts inside, no pressure loss and clogging
situation.
• Measure fluids contain fiber, solid particle and suspended substance.
• Many liner materials and electrode selections are for different kind fluid
requirements.
• Select pulse output and 4-20mA output at the same time.
• Explosion Proof, Exd(ib)ibqIIBT5) can be installed in hazardous areas.
• In special model, sensors can work under water.
5. Application of ALIA MAG
ALIA MAG can be used for various conducting liquids, such as : tap water, sewage, sea
water, mud, paper pulp, beverage, chemical material, stick liquid and suspending liquid.

6. Installation of ALIA MAG
Please DO NOT install flowmeter near motor, transformer, transducer and othe
r machines, which can cause magnetic interference.
Requirements of straight tube:
For general tube, flowmeter upstream keeps 5D -10D & 2D-5D for downstream.
Flowmeter can be horizontal, vertical or slanting. Make sure the tube is full no
matter the fluid is moving or not.
If fluid is with solids, we suggest use vertical installation (bottom to top), which
can avoid solid sediments inside the tube.
Pipe design should make sure there is no air bubbles in the pipe.
Electrode position should be parallel with ground:
When flowmeter is horizontally or aslant installed, the electrode positions (A.B)
should match the right & left side of tube, and converter (junction box) should be
top of the tube.
Requirements for grounding:
A. General metal pipe: Connect flowmeter housing and metal pipe to ground.
B. Non-metal pipe (plastic pipe with liner): We suggest use grounding ring or gr
ounding electrodes to export noisy signals from fluid.

7. Troubleshooting of ALIA MAG
Common Fault Analysis:
7.1 No display
A. No backlight (AMC2100)
Check the power connection.
The wirings are right?
The fuse falls off?
Data cables of display board & power board drop?
B . Backlight but no caption
The capacitance near LCD has problems?
7.2 Flowrate displayed is zero
A . Check wirings fall off?
B . Check parameter settings:
E.g.: (1) Empty-pipe detection: set it to YES? Pls set it to NO.
(2) Low-flow cutoff: Is it set too high; Usually, set it to 0 ~1.0%FS
.
(3) Fluid direction: set it to bidirectional. (If set it to forward, it will
display 0 while the fluid is reverse direction.)
7. Troubleshooting of ALIA MAG
7.3 Unstable zero point
A. The pipe is full of fluid (full pipe)?
If not full pipe, make the pipe full or change an installation place
to make pipe full.
B. There are bubbles in the pipe?
Wipe off the bubbles.
C. The conductivity of fluid is less than 5 us/cm?
Low conductivity will affect measurement, so make the
conductivity more than 5 us/cm.
D. The grounding is fine?
Ground the meter, especially PVC pipe, which should enhance
grounding by grounding electrodes or rings.
E. The flowmeter is too close to uprated motor or transducer?
Change an installation place, which far away high magnetic field.
F. Use specified cables to connect converter and sensor?
Pls use ALIA specified cables to enhance the stability of anti-interference
.
7. Troubleshooting of ALIA MAG
7.4 Measured value & actual value are different
A. Parameter data has been modified?
Did you change the converter factor KC, sensor factor KS or size?
Check that the data is same as the calibration report.
B. Make zero calibration when the fluid did not completely stop or
the pipe is not full?
Make zero calibration on the condition that, the pipe should be full and
the flow completely stops.
7. Troubleshooting of ALIA MAG
7.5 Sensor Fault Analysis
(1) Cut off the converter power and remove ABCXY cables in converter.
(2) Use multimeter with ohm position about in 200ohm, and measure that the
resistance between X & Y is 50-180 ohm (fixed value).
(3) Under the circumstance of full pipe:
a. Use multimeter with ohm position about in 20MW, and measure the
resistance of A-B,A-C,B-C is 100KW ~ 5MW with gradually increasing or
decreasing values.
b. Use multimeter with ohm position about in 20MW, and measure the
resistance of A-X, A-Y,B-X,B-Y,C-X,C-Y is infinite.
Note: under the circumstance of empty pipe (no flowrate)
The resistance of A-B, A-C, A-X, A-Y is infinite.
The resistance of B-C, B-X, B-Y is infinite.
The resistance of C-X, C-Y is infinite.
(4) After above steps, if everything is ok, it means AMF900 sensor is ok.
(5) For separate version, if it is not same as above steps, pls open the junction
box of sensor for further checking.
7. Troubleshooting of ALIA MAG
7.6 How to check separate sensor
Open the junction box of sensor.
Remove the cables inside, A,B,C,X,Y.
Measure as step 2 & 3.
If measured results size up, it means the sensor is ok and the problems
lie in the disconnection or short circuit of cables.
If no water inflow, it means there are sth wrong inside sensor. So pls retur
n to ALIA for repair.
