Presentation 1 M

Everyone is exposed to low levels of natural background radiation daily from terrestrial, cosmic, and other sources. The average annual natural background radiation dose in Sweden is 760 μSv. Diagnostic dental imaging procedures, such as panoramic radiography and CBCT, expose patients to radiation doses on the order of days to weeks of natural background exposure. Air travel also increases exposure to cosmic radiation, equivalent to hours of natural background exposure. MRI does not use ionizing radiation.

Radiation Risks: Dental Diagnostic Imaging Procedures VS

Environmental Exposure & Exposure During Air Travel

Everyone is exposed to ionizing radiation from natural sources at all times. According to the United Nations Scientific Committee on the
Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR), there are four major sources of natural radiation:
TERRESTRIAL RADIATION INHALATION COSMIC RADIATION INGESTION

Radioactive substances in the Emanation of radioactive gas from Cosmic rays from outer space which Trace amounts of radioactivity in
earth´s crust the earth bombard The earth the body

In Sweden, the average annual dose from natural background radiation is 760 µSv
Also, we are exposed to low levels of radiation when we fly. This radiation comes from cosmic radiation, or radiation from space

Diagnostic imaging Approximate radiation effective Days of natural background dose Traveling hours by
