SUMMARY
I am fortunate to have almost a decade of experience in marketing and communication
coupled with a recent communications degree. The combination of hands-on work experience
with current theories and practice gives me a particularly useful skill set in the marketing and
communications arenas.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Marketing and Communications Manager, Michigan Tech Alumni & Advancement, 2013–2020

Essential duties were digital content management with some involvement in printed
communications. I created all outgoing mass emails and maintained multiple departmental
websites. Additional duties included serving as departmental liaison with IT and marketing
departments and campus-wide liaison for development, design, and implementation of
alumni communications initiatives.

Notable Accomplishments:
• Researched and implemented the use of a task-tracking system
• Implemented metrics tracking for outward-facing communications
• Led design optimization based on data analysis
• Email open and click rates almost double and triple national average, respectively

Department Coordinator, Michigan Tech Alumni Engagement, 2012–2013

I served as department coordinator/office manager, providing administrative support for

alumni engagement and the alumni board of directors. My responsibilities included all
financial operations of the department, all human resources functions, facilities liaison, IT
liaison, and general interface for all on- and off-campus needs. I used a wide range of
university-related software, including Banner 8 and 9, inventory management software.
Notable Accomplishments:
• Instituted appropriate general accounting procedures for all alumni accounts
• Organized and reconciled existing financial accounts
• Transitioned static SOP manual to dynamic online searchable wiki
• Streamlined the credit card reconciliation process for merchant sales and events
• Instituted multiple process improvement initiatives

Campaign Manager, Pamela B. Dobbs for Houghton County Prosecutor, 2012

I devoted in excess of a thousand volunteer hours as manager of a grassroots campaign to

replace an incumbent criminal prosecutor in the general election. We had been defeated in
the previous election and opted, after much agonizing and debate, to switch parties (as it was
a nonpartisan contest) and try again.

Our campaign involved direct mail, telephone contact, website development, parades, rallies,
debates, and, most importantly, door-to-door contact with approximately ten thousand
individuals.
Our campaign was not successful, but the incumbent, a lifelong resident and well-known
attorney, defeated our candidate, a four-year resident, by only 1.38% of the vote.
During the campaign, I had extensive contact with the local leaders of both the Democratic
and Republican parties.
Campaign Manager, Pamela B. Dobbs for Houghton County Prosecutor, 2010

I devoted in excess of a thousand volunteer hours as manager of a grassroots campaign to

replace an incumbent criminal prosecutor in the Democratic primary. Our campaign involved
direct mail, telephone contact, website development, parades, rallies, debates, and, most
importantly, door-to-door contact with approximately ten thousand individuals.
Our campaign was not successful, but the incumbent, a lifelong resident and well-known
attorney, defeated our candidate, a two-year resident, by only 5.24% of the vote.
During the campaign, I had extensive contact with the local leaders of both the Democratic
and Republican parties.
Department Coordinator, Michigan Tech Visual and Performing Arts, 2009–2012

I was the sole support staff for the department. My job was interfacing the artistic faculty and
students with reality. I handled all interactions with financial aid, the registrar, administration,
human resources, and other university departments. I wrote faculty contracts and maintained
employee files. I prepared contracts for guest artists, external venues, transportation,
lodging, and intellectual property licensing. I assisted with the creation and management of
the department budget. I managed the department website.
Notable Accomplishments:
• Implemented anticipatory budgeting policy for future needs and equipment
• Implemented purchasing card reconciliation procedures for all faculty and staff
• Established technological solutions for usage/inventory of materials and spaces
• Revised accounting procedures to comply with University requirements.

Law Enforcement Officer, Village of Capitan, New Mexico, 2006-2007

Full-time, certified law enforcement officer, investigator, and evidence custodian. I instituted
an evidence tracking, inventory, and disposition protocol.

Owner and General Contractor, Steven R. Dobbs Construction, New Mexico, 2004-2006

Licensed (GB-98 No. 92460) and bonded general contractor. I specialized in remodeling,
painting, drywall, and concrete.
Deputy Sheriff, Lincoln County, New Mexico, 2002-2004

Putative full-time, certified law enforcement officer and de facto public relations
representative for an elected official. I transitioned the county warrant database from
outdated Lotus 1-2-3 files on floppy disks to an Excel spreadsheet on a less-volatile medium.
I also instituted a system for regular backups of warrant data.
Law Enforcement Officer, Village of Ruidoso, New Mexico, 2000-2002

Full-time, certified law enforcement officer, investigator, Special Response Team member,
grant writer and manager. I created digital versions of state-mandated reports that allowed
the department to transition from handwritten and typewritten reports to word processing.
Law Enforcement Officer, City of Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico, 1998-2000

Full-time, certified law enforcement officer and investigator.

Paralegal, Pamela Beckman, Attorney at Law, Ruidoso, New Mexico, 1996-1998

I prepared pleadings for a practice primarily focused on domestic relations and bankruptcy,
with the occasional criminal defense case. I managed the office and the attorney's
scheduling, filing, and trial preparation.
With Pamela Beckman, I lobbied the New Mexico legislature to establish the Twelfth Judicial
District alternative dispute resolution program for domestic relations cases.
Paralegal, Oralia B. Franco, Attorney at Law, Las Cruces, New Mexico, 1992-1996

I specialized in the duties of a Chapter Seven bankruptcy trustee. I managed estates valued
in the millions of dollars, collaborated with attorneys for the bankruptcy estates, negotiated
with creditors, agencies, and other interested parties. One of the cases I managed
established a precedent for trustee liability at the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition, I helped
design and beta-test the original electronic filing system for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the
District of New Mexico.
Paralegal, Robert D. Clark, Attorney at Law, Las Cruces, New Mexico, 1990-1992

I took dictation, transcribed, and eventually directly created legal pleadings in a practice that
handled primarily bankruptcy and divorce cases. I created a spreadsheet that calculated
payout percentages possible to Chapter Thirteen bankruptcy petitioners which the Chapter
Thirteen Trustee officially recommended to other bankruptcy attorneys.
I also occasionally served as Mr. Clark’s emergency contact and caregiver.
