The document is a report analyzing data from Hindustan Unilever to test their assumption about average customer expenditure on soap. It summarizes the company profile, states the objective is to test their assumption of Rs. 120 average expenditure, and describes the methodology as analyzing primary and secondary data from a sample of 30 using a t-test. The analysis finds the average expenditure from the sample is Rs. 175, with a t-value higher than critical t-value, so the null hypothesis that the average is Rs. 120 is rejected in favor of the alternative hypothesis. In conclusion, Hindustan Unilever's original assumption is not true based on the analysis.

INTRODUCTION

A hypothesis is an assumption about a population parameter. It is a statement about the

population that may or may not be true. Hypothesis testing aims to make a statistical
conclusion about accepting or not accepting the hypothesis.

So, a statistical hypothesis is an assertion or conjecture concerning one or more

populations. To prove that a hypothesis is true, or false, with absolute certainty, we would
need absolute knowledge. That is, we would have to examine the entire population.
Instead, hypothesis testing concerns on how to use a random sample to judge if it is
evidence that supports or not the hypothesis.

OBJECTIVS

Objectives of the study is to test the assumption made by Hindustan

Unilever Ltd. committee member regarding customer average
monthly expenditure towards Soap whether it is correct or not..

[7]
METHODOLOGY

The study in based on both Secondary as well as primary data which will be
collected through Convenience, personal interview, company reports, web sites etc.
Area of the Study: The research study was done by given a problem.
Sample size:- The sample size of this study is 30

Sampling technique:- Convenience sampling .

Source of Data: Secondary data and Primary data has been used for this study.
Statistical Tools: Analysis of Variance (t test one Tailed) method is used to
calculate the data.

DATA ANALYSIS
Calculation of mean from 30 sampling data:-

µ- Mean
H :µ ≠ Rs 120

[10]
t = 37.67

tα = .05
= 1.96

So here t is bigger then t α (37.67 >1.96)

means Null Hypothesis is rejected and alternative hypothesis
is accepted.

[11]
Conclusion

The assumption made by the committee that the average expenditure on soap per month
was Rs 120 is not true (Ho:µ=Rs120) that is alternative hypothesis accepted which is
H1:µ≠Rs120.

[12]
CONCEPTUAL RELEVANCE

T-Test
Student t test is a statistical test which is widely used to compare the mean of
two groups of samples. It is therefore to evaluate whether the means of the two
sets of data are statistically significantly different from each other. ... The paired
t-test, used to compare the means between two related groups of samples.A z-
statistic, or z-score, is a number representing how many standard deviations
above or below the mean population a score derived from a z-test is.

Why we use t test

We use the t test to find out if there is a significant difference between the two
populations by only comparing the sample mean of the population and the
sample size is also more than 30.
