(Mathematical modeling of physical systems)

1. Find the transfer function for the given electrical circuit considering ei as input and eo as output

2. Write the equation and block diagram of an armature controlled DC motor (separately excited) whose field
current is held constant. Derive the transfer function considering the speed (t ) as output and armature
voltage ea (t ) as input. Consider La : armature inductance, Kt : torque constant, Ra : armature resistance,
TL : load torque, J : damping constant, J : Moment of inertia of the rotor and load referred to the rotor
shaft. (All quantities are in SI units).

3. Construct the equivalent electrical network of the following mechanical system by F-I Analogy. Hence
derive the transfer function considering force f (t ) as input and displacement y(t ) as output. All other
notations have their usual meanings.

4. Repeat Problem No. 3 by F-V Analogy.

5. Consider the following spring mass damper system mounted on a mass-less moving cart. Find the transfer
function of the system considering displacement of cart u (t ) as input and displacement of the mass y(t ) as
output. All other notations have their usual meanings.
6. Consider a room heating system where indoor temperature is controlled by the flow of steam circulated
through radiator coils. Find the transfer function for the system.
The given parameters:
Q  steam flow rate(kg / sec);   latent heat of condensation( J / kg ); V  volume of the room(m3 )
  air density (kg / m3 ); c  specific heat ( Jkg 1K 1 ); i  indoor temp ( K )  o  outdoor temp( K )
R  thermal resistance();

7. For the following coupled tank system Find the transfer function considering incremental input flow rate q
as input and incremental height h2 as output.. (Hints: See Modern Control Engineering, K. Ogata, 4th
Edition Page No. 153-156)

8. An inverted pendulum is mounted on the motor driven cart. It is unstable and may fall. Here we assume it
falls only along the plane of the paper. The control force u (t ) is applied to the cart. Obtain a transfer
function model of the system considering  (t ) as output and u (t ) as input. All other notations have their
usual meanings. (Hints: See Modern Control Engineering, K. Ogata, 4th Edition Page No. 86-87)

9. Realize the transfer functions by Op-Amp and passive elements (R, L and C)
