Lines Traces 3.pps

Here are the steps to solve this problem: 1. Draw the V.P. and H.P. 2. Mark the V.T. 10 mm above the H.P. 3. Draw a perpendicular from the V.T. up to the V.P. to locate the projector of the V.T. 4. Draw a line 30 mm below the H.P. to locate the projector of end A 5. Draw a line 20 mm behind the V.P. to locate end A 6. Draw a line 40 mm away from the projector of the V.T. to locate the projector of end B 7. Draw a perpendicular from the projector

TRACES OF A LINE

• If a straight line is non-parallel to a plane, it will have a point of intersection with that
plane if it is produced. That point of intersection is called the trace of the line on that
plane.

• The point of intersection of the line with the H.P. is known as the Horizontal Trace of
the line, i.e., H.T.

• The point of intersection of the line with the V.P. is known as the Vertical Trace of the
line, i.e., V.T.

• A line is parallel to a plane, it will never have a trace on it.

Pb-10/Exercise IX(b):
A line AB is in the third quadrant. Its ends A and B are 20 mm and 60 mm behind the V.P.
respectively. The distance between the end projectors is 75 mm. The line is inclined at 30 o to
the H.P. and its H.T. is 10 mm below xy. Draw the projections of AB and determine its true
length and its V.T.

Given:
Line AB in Third Quadrant
End A is 20 mm behind the V.P.
End B is 60 mm behind the V.P.
Distance between end projectors = 75 mm
True Inclination with the H.P. = θ = 30o
H.T. is 10 mm below xy.
• The true shape of the trapezoid ABba can be seen in the top view when it is rotated about the top
view ab and made to fall in the H.P.
• The lengths of perpendiculars at the ends of the top view of the line are the same as the distances of
the front views of those ends from the xy line.
• The true shape of the trapezoid ABa’b’ can be seen in the front view when it is rotated about the front
view a’b’ and made to fall in the V.P.
• The lengths of perpendiculars at the ends of the front view of the line are the same as the distances
of the top views of those ends from the xy line.
IMPORTANT
• If a view is intersecting the xy line, then the perpendiculars in the other view shall be drawn
opposing.
Pb-46/Miscellaneous Exercise:
A line AB measures 100 mm. The projectors through its V.T. and the end A are 40 mm apart.
The point A is 30 mm below the H.P. and 20 mm behind the V.P. The V.T. is 10 mm above
the H.P. Draw the projections of the line and determine its H.T. and inclinations with the H.P.
and the V.P.

Given:
Line AB; T.L. = 100 mm
Dist. b/w projector of V.T. and projector of end A = 40 mm
End A is 30 mm below the H.P. and 20 mm behind the V.P.
V.T. is 10 mm above the H.P.
