This document describes the printers that will not print when connected to the HP Media
Vault product.
Several types of printers use technologies that cannot be supported by HP Media Vault or on a
network. These types of printers and specific models are listed in this document.
Symptoms
HP Media Vault will not recognize the printer.
The printer driver cannot be configured.
The printer will not print.

Types of printers not supported
The following types of printers are not supported:
Host-based or GDI printers. Graphic Design Interface (GDI) printers replace the processing
power of the printer with capabilities "borrowed" from the host computer. Because the
media vault is not a computer, these types of printers are not supported.
All-in-one or multifunction printers for all brands. These are printers that include scan, copy,
or fax capability.
Certain Hewlett-Packard PPA printers. Some Printing Performance Architecture (PPA)
printers handle only basic printer functions while the software on the computer handles the
majority of printer functionality. Many Deskjet printers are PPA printers.
Several HP Officejets are not designed for, and therefore not supported, on networks.
Some HP LaserJet Printers with on-board networking are not supported by the media vault.
Some printers designed for home use are not intended to work on a network.

HP Deskjet 300, 400, 500, and 600 series printers.
