LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS

Grade 1

LC. Visualizes and adds numbers without regrouping.


I. Objectives
At the end of the 60-minute period, the students will be able to:
1. Identify basic addition concept through beads and yarn;
2. Display accuracy in one-digit number addition through beads and yarn;
and
3. Demonstrate simple addition in one-digit number through worksheets
using beads and yarn.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Addition of one-digit number without regrouping
Reference: Hernandez, D. (2006). Beginning Math. ASIAN Pub. House,
Makati City. Pp 35-36
Materials: number chart, bag of candles, beads, yarn, worksheet
Key Terms: plus, addend, add, total
Values(s): Accuracy in addition in relation to real-life situation.
III. Procedure:
A. Classroom Routine
B. Activity Proper
a. Review. Ask the students regarding their previous lesson: “Counting
Numbers”
1. Using the number chart, let the students count from 1-10.
b. Count Me In. Show a box of candies. Ask the students how many
boys and girls in the class, and ask them how many candies in total for
each of them.

C. Analysis
a. How can we fix the problem?
b. How can we find out the total number of students in our class?

D. Abstraction
a. Deductive Method. Introduce addition and its terms through number
flashcards together with beads and yarn.
b. Give specific examples using beads and yarn in getting the total
number
1. How many beads and yarn all in all?

c. Reflection. Conversational Recitation


1. Share the importance of addition in real life situation.
a. What will happen to you if you don’t know how to add?

d. Application
a. Post addition problems on the board.
b. Let each student perform one item from the board.
c. Give each students a set of beads and yarn. Instruct them to
answer the problem in their assigned number. Using the beads,
students will add numbers by adding beads in the yarn and count
for the total.
d. Give verbal prompt and partial prompt to the students to help them
answer the given problem.

5. 5+1=

IV. Assessment. Quiz


1. Give each students a set of beads, a yarn and a worksheet.
2. Instruct them to answer the worksheet using the yarn and beads. Using
the beads, students will add numbers by adding beads in the yarn and
count for the total.
3. Let them answer the activity individually and give rewards after completing
the task.
