Review

Class before we proceed into our


new lesson, let us do some recap of our
topic last meeting.

What was our topic last time? Ma’am our topic last meeting was about
the elements of poetry.

Correct! And what are the elements of They are the sound, imagery, words,
poetry? figurative language.
Very good! Thank you.

Motivation

So now, I want you to watch this


video about a short story. Listen and watch
attentively. Okay? Yes Ma’am.

Alright. What is the title of the story
on the video? Ma’am the title of the story is “Goldilocks
and the Three bears”.
Correct. And now I want you to narrate the
story in front of the class.
I will group you into two groups.
Group one; you will narrate the story by
role playing.
Group two; you will narrate the story
through a poem.
You have five minutes to discuss it within
your group.
Each group will be given five minutes to
perform their output.
Criteria :
a. Delivery 30%
b. Mastery 30%

As I remember, I have asked you


to research about the elements of short
story. Did I? Yes Ma’am

Get your notes.

What is the first element of short story? Ma’am, it’s Setting.

Correct. What is setting? It is the location of the story, or is where


the story takes place, is usually
established at the outset.

Very good! What is the next element? The Character.

Correct! And what is Character? Are the people, animals or object in the
story.
Writers use characters to perform the
actions and speak dialogue, moving the
story along a plot line.
Correct! What is the next element? Ma’am it’s Plot.

What is Plot? Things that happen in the story.


A series of casually related events that
leads to some sort of change.

Very Good! And the last element? Theme.

What is theme? The message that writers intent to


communicate by telling the story.
Excellent!

D. Analysis

Where is the setting of the story? The setting is in the forest in a small
cottage.

Who are the characters of the story? The characters are: Goldilocks, Papa Bear,
Mama Bear and Baby Bear.
What is the plot of the story? A little girl named Goldilocks, goes for a
walk in the forest and comes upon a house
where she enters and finds to her
delight three bowls of porridge. The first
one she tastes is too hot, the next too cold
but the third one just right so she eats it all
up.

What is the theme of the story? The theme of the story is to always
consider how your actions might affect
others.

E. Application

And now that you are familiar with the


elements of a short story, I want you to
read this short story entitled “A Heart for
Amanda”. Give the elements of a short
story.

What is the moral lesson of the story? The moral reasoning of the story is strung
between self-concern/preservation and
transgressive social rule breaking.
