Organisation Study
Organization study aims at creating an industry interface where the students of MBA
programme can observe the application of Management concepts. The study is normally
undertaken at the end of Second Semester, for a minimum of one weeks in an Organization of
their choice. The organization chosen should be a public limited organization or equivalent.
Organisation Study
Every student has to undergo an Organisation Study and produce a report on the functioning
of an organisation from the managerial perspective. This study and the report will be treated
as full course carrying 100 marks. The internal marks for the Organisation Study will be
awarded by means of Report Presentation and Viva voce conducted by a Board of Faculty
Members appointed for this purpose by the Faculty Council of the respective Institute.
Students are permitted to do their Organisation Study only in Organisations listed in
Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) or Minimum of hundred employees with all
functional departments for a period not less than one month. No student from the same
college is permitted to undergo Organisation Study in such Organisation where a student
from the same college is admitted for an academic year. A certificate from the Internal Guide
of the business Organisation should also be obtained by the student after the successful
completion of the project and the same should be attached with the project report. While
selecting the Organisation, it should be a manufacturing/ service Organisation with four
functional areas such as Finance, Marketing and sales, Human Resources, and Operation or
production Departments.
Objectives
The major objective of the Organization Study is to create an understanding of the area-wise
subjects taught in their Business Management Programme.
i. To familiarize the students with a business organization to relate theory with practice.
ii. To familiarize the students with an organization structure and its functioning
iii. To familiarize them with the different departments in the Organisation and their functions
and activities including documentation.
iv. To enable the students to understand how the key business processes are carried out in
an Organisation.
v. Understand how information is used in Organisation for decision making at various levels
including data flow diagram.
vi. To conduct a SWOT analysis of the organization
vii. To study the financial performance of the organization by doing financial analysis
viii. To understand the extent of technology adoption including ICT, in the organization for
various functions/activities.

2. Make the organization chart for the organization and try to understand the functions of
the managers/officers and supervisors in the different departments. Record these observations
of yours and clarify with your supervisor to check if the same is correct.
3. Identify the key functions of each department and try to understand how it is carried out
(the process) for e.g.: Materials department having the purchase function.
Process could be: collect intends, check intends, find suppliers, get Quotes, decide who to
purchase from, prepare and issue purchase orders, follow up till delivery is got.
4. Try and interact with personnel and customers (both external & internal) users, to find if
there are problems with the processes. Make record of your findings.

Do a SWOT and Porters Five Force model analysis for the organization.
The institution will allot a faculty (Mentor) for each of the student to supervise your
organization study.
The Students should note the following:
All students should meet and discuss with your respective faculty supervisor (mentor) before
leaving for organization study
All students should update the progress of the study with your faculty supervisor at least once
in a week with written report emailed.
All students should submit the duly filled evaluation report in the prescribed format from
your organization Guide to the Faculty supervisor.
Any changes, if required, in the organization study can be made with the consent of your
faculty supervisor.
Evaluation
On return to the institute each students will be required to make a presentation of the study
and will also have to submit a written report, which will be used for evaluation. The
parameters of the evaluation are Organization Understanding, Identification of
key/critical/problem areas, Analysis, Presentation and Study Report. Please also make it a
point to send a joining report (By the organisation Guide/Co-ordinator) from the organization
within a week of your reporting for the study to the Faculty Supervisor. Please mark your
attendance daily with the organisation Guide. The institution shall also contact the
organization guide to receive a confidential feedback report about each student at the end or
in between of the project. All students are requested to bring the duly filled (sealed)
confidential report (the format is enclosed in appendix) from your organization Guide and
hand over to your Faculty Supervisor, after completing the study.

The size of project report should not exceed 70 pages of typed matter reckoned from the first
page of introduction to the last page of conclusion.
The dimensions of the final bound copies of the project report should be 290mm x 205mm.
Standard A4 size (297mm x 210mm) paper may be used for preparing the copies.

The project report should be prepared on good quality white paper preferably not lower than
80 gm /Sq. Meter.
Tables and figures should conform to the margin specifications. Large size figures should be
photographically or otherwise reduced to the appropriate size before insertion
