Solving QE (Factoring)
Solving QE (Factoring)
LEARNING COMPETENCIES:
At the end of the class, 100% of the students should be able to learn 75% of the lesson and be
able to:
solve quadratic equations by factoring;
write quadratic equation with given roots;
illustrate the given situation using a diagram that would represent the different
measures of quantities involved;
develop students’ understanding in factoring through real-life situation.
2. Motivation
Pre-Assessment: Introduce students to the important new vocabulary. Also
reactivate prior factoring knowledge by giving examples as warm-
up. This pre-assessment is already studied in Grade 8
Mathematics.
Direction: Factor each of the following polynomials.
1. 2 x2 −8 x
2. −3 s 2 +9 s
3. 4 x+20 x 2
4. 5 t−10 t 2
5. s2 +8 s+12
B. Presentation: (2 mins)
1. Present the topic in which students with an opportunity to think of a way to find
the measures of unknown quantities using the equation formulated.
C. Generalization: (2 mins)
Ask the students once again to enumerate the procedure in finding the roots or
solution of a standard quadratic equation by factoring.
V. ASSIGNMENT:
Notebook:
Give at least 3 quadratic equations which can be solved by extracting the square roots, then
solve.
