CHAPTER-01
1.1 INTRODUCTION OF INTERNSHIP:

The internship provides an opportunity to get introduced to the practical world and seek information
in the organization to discover about subject knowledge and skills in a particular area.

This internship made me to understand the concept of shelf spacing, difference between private and
multinational brands, in HyperCity Retail India Private Limited. I took the customer feedback and
the same data was entered in the data base of the organization.

I learned about the importance of shelf spacing among customers. Being a part of the team I have
learned to handle many promotional activities in the store. In duration of 4 weeks I have not only
gathered information about my project but also collected information about competitors, retail store
function, and many other activities associated to the retail segment.

During my project I interacted with the customer and I got real life experience about many
theoretical concepts as segmentation, choice making, and preference by the customers.

It was really a great opportunity to understand the concept of marketing in depth. I spoke to
customer and learnt how to handle to motivate them to buy the product (selling technique) handling
complaints and quires.

I have inculcated problem solving skill, time management skills, and event management skills. Few
results have come out with great difficulty.

MCKINSEY’S 7S FRAME WORK:

In order to assist managers with the difficulties in the implementation that are associated with the
change in organization the S model was formulated by the consultation of McKinsey and the
business in the late 1970’s.

The seven elements are distinguished in so called hard S’s and soft S’s. The hard element (green
circles) are easy to identify. They can be found in strategy statements, corporate plans, organization
charts and other documentations. The four soft S’s however, are difficult to describe since
capabilities, value and elements of corporate culture are continuously developing and changing. They
are highly determined by the people at work in the organization. Therefore it is much more difficult
to plan or to influence the characteristics of the soft elements.

The 7S model can be used in a wide variety of situations where an alignment perspective is useful, for
example, to help you.

 Improve the performance of a company.

 Examine the likely effects of future changes within a company.
 Align departments and processes during a merger or acquisition.
 Determine how best to implement a proposed strategy
