Chemis TY: Investiga Tory

This document summarizes a chemistry investigatory project on detecting the presence of nickel in chocolate. The project involves testing a chocolate sample using various reagents to observe any reactions. Hydrochloric acid is used to dissolve the sample and test for metal ions from group 1 and 2. Hydrogen sulfide gas is passed to test for group 4 metals, resulting in a black precipitate indicating nickel is present. Addition of ammonium hydroxide and dimethyl glyoxine confirms the presence of nickel through a bright red precipitate. The conclusion is that nickel was detected in the chocolate sample.
