0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 What is library?

Library is a collection of books and other literacy materials that kept for
reading, research, reference, study and consultation. Libraries also organized
collections of document, films, maps, sound-recording and others forms of media,
and are designed to meet the informational, education and recreational needs of a
given user population. Library also known as a building or room containing
collections of books, periodicals, and sometimes films and recorded music for use
or borrowing by the public or the members of an institution.

In computer science, a library is a collection of implementations of behavior,

written in terms of a language that has a well-defined interface by which the
behavior is invoked. In addition, the behavior is provided for reuse by multiple
independent programs. A program invokes the library-provided behavior via a
mechanism of the language. For example, in a simple imperative language such
as C, the behavior in a library is invoked by using C's normal function-call. What
distinguishes the call as being to a library, versus being to another function in the
same program, is the way that the code is organized in the system. Library code is
organized in such a way that it can be used by multiple programs that have no
connection to each other, while code that is part of a program is organized to only
be used within that one program. This distinction can gain a hierarchical notion
when a program grows large, such as a multi-million-line program. In that case,
there may be internal libraries that are reused by independent sub-portions of the
large program. The distinguishing feature is that a library is organized for the
purposes of being reused by independent programs or sub-programs, and the user
only needs to know the interface, and not the internal details of the library.

1.2 TYPE OF LIBRARY

 NATIONAL LIBRARIES
A national library is a library that specially established by the government of a
country to serves as the preeminent repository of information for that country.
It’s also maintained out by the government funds and serves the nation as a
whole. For example national library National Library of Malaysia (PNM).

 PUBLIC LIBRARIES
Public library is a library which is accessible by the public and is generally
funded by the government. Public library serve the public information needs
generally as well as offering materials for general entertainment and leisure
purpose. For example public library is Pahang State Library.

 ACADEMIC LIBRARIES
Academic library is a library which serves an institution of higher learning,
such as college or a university. Academic library support the teaching and
learning research to study and refer. For example Perpustakaan Tun Abdul
Razak, UiTM.

 SPECIAL LIBRARIES
Special library is a library that specialize in a limited subject area. It is usually
maintained by a corporation, association or government. Special library also
serve specific for professional needs for example SIRIM Library.

 SCHOOL LIBRARIES

School library is a library which serves the staffs and students in school,
providing not only resources to support the curriculum but also direction in the
development and teaching courses. For example school libraries is
Perpustakaan S.K TTDI.

1.3 DESIGNING LIBRARY

1.3.1 Introduction about library/background

Public libraries are now acknowledged to be an indispensable part of

community life as promoters of literacy, providers of a wide range of reading for
all ages, and centres for community information services. Public libraries now
provide well-stocked reference libraries and wide-ranging loan services based on
systems of branch libraries. In the United Kingdom the first tax-supported public
libraries were set up in 1850; they provide a highly significant part of the
country’s total national library service. The importance of public library activities
has been recognized in many countries by legislation designed to ensure that
good library services are available to all without charge.

Nature Library is an public library that serving people of every age, income
level, location, ethnicity, or physical ability, and providing the full range of
information resources needed to live, learn, govern, and work. This Nature
Library began operating in 2019 and located in Seremban. The name of this
library according to our theme which is nature. To accommodate the increasing
number of users, this library building has been extended to provide more reading
area in year 2020. The extension has increased the floor space for reading to 200
seats to make sure people comfortable to use and come to this library. This library
contain 2 levels which is it provides a spacious and concussive learning
environment. It has one discussion rooms, a closed reference room, a journal
room, one twenty-four hours reading room, one room for children and one room
for adults.

The designing or remodelling libraries with natural libraries can instil

nature's love for the environment and also includes natural elements throughout,
including green space inside and adjacent parks, outdoor reading garden,
environmentally friendly plants, and newly planted trees. There is also a kid's
"Nature Nook" in the library with interactive wildlife features and doors to a
children's reading garden. There will be a public art installation there called "Tree
House" where small houses.

3
The collection of this public library will be focused on printed including
books, newspapers, periodicals, maps, music scores, and any other print
materials, non-printed materials such as audio-visual materials, electronic
resources and microforms, journal and articles.

1.3.3 OBJECTIVE

1. To provide a source and material of information that can enable people to

make the research.

2. To provide an opportunity for people to develop the skills and attitudes

which will encourage the library usage.

3. Instilling reading habits among people so they are aware of the goodness of
reading through the resources in the library.
4. Provide a safe and conducive learning environment to use library resources
to ensure that people will be comfortable

1.3.4 MISSION

Mission of our public library is to provide a dynamic and quality user cantered
library and information services that will enhance actively supports bringing
people, information, and ideas together.

4
1.3.5 VISION

Our public library vision is to be a centre of excellence in the provision of library

and information services to the community. We also explore and implement
innovative technologies and services to deliver information and scholarly
resources conveniently to users anytime and anyplace.

1.3.6 SCOPE

Scope of this library are focus to support the mission and vision of this library to
make sure they use the information in the library wisely. The using of library will
give more benefit for people to gain many information by using the sources that
enable in the every library.

1.3.7 PURPOSE

The purpose of a public library was to acquire books and then lend those books
out to the community to improve literacy, share knowledge and provide education
and entertainment. This allowed a huge number of people to share one book
rather than each having to purchase their own copy. Today, public libraries offer
a wide variety of resources and services to the communities they serve. The
primary goals are still education, information, individual improvement and
recreation.

1.3.8 THEME

Our library theme is about nature. This is because the library is the perfect place
to slowly and safely help families or others connect to nature. Libraries are in
every neighborhood, they are already a community center, they are often backed
by friends, they have existing resources like nature books, they are often more
flexible than schools and they are known to be safe. Indeed with this theme of
nature we can also make others feel comfortable when in our library.

2.0 ARRANGEMENT

2.1 Method of distinguishing information packages

Information packages is a services that our library provided to give tips and
guides on finding materials for public research topic by topic, subject matter, and
range discipline based on the core area of people using an effective search
strategy and providing a bibliography reference list. The librarian will perform
literature search on your topic in the appropriate databases and will provide a list
of references. This services free for all people who enter to our nature library. We
arranging our information packages by using building level plus we only contain
two level, so in level one more for all users and level two for researcher and
student.

In first floor we provide general information for people uses such as media
collection which is comprises non-book materials such as dvd, vcd, cd-rom, dvd-
rom, video (U-matic, vhs), film strips, audio-cassettes, slide, kits, compact disc,
laser disc, film loops, microfiches, microfilms and maps. The collection is a
closed access collection. Next, leisure reading collection which is collection
comprises light reading materials, general and popular in nature, suitable for all
users. We also provide general collection which is consists of books on all
subjects (Online Public Access Catalogue), all books in this collection can be
borrowed. Journal collection also situated at level one which is contains more
than 100 journal titles or 50 journal titles including 30 journal titles of current and
previous publications in various subjects like religion, economy, social science,
science and technology.

In second floor, the information more to researcher and student such as

document collection, red sport collection, and reference collection. Document
collection is government documents that important sources for statistics,
government policies and current or historical events. The Documents in this
collection are published by the following bodies; Government of Malaysia
(Ministrial / department level), State governments of Malaysia, Statutory bodies
in Malaysia, United Nations and its agencies, Foreign Governments (Selective),
OECD (Organization for economic Corporation and Development),
Intergovernmental bodies, Rand Corporation – a private institution which

7
published reports, papers, notes, etc. for research. Beside that, red sport collection
is located behind the borrowing and returning counter. The titles are mainly
recommended by lecturer and they serve as compulsory reading materials.
Reference collection is the materials can be used within this collection only. The
items consists of all disciplines except the Arabic and Islamic Studies. The
reference collection comprises reference books such as encyclopedia,
dictionaries, almanacs, guide books, yearbooks and etc.

2.2 Standards used in arranging all collection and reason

To arrange the collection our nature library using Dewey Decimal

Classification system plus we use group of colour that put at spine of book for
each category collection to easier people find the book. Our library have lot of
collection and also have several item for each collection. Type of collection that
we provide is general collection which is divided by two section, fiction (black
and 100 item) and non-fiction (green and 250 item). For media collection (purple
and 50 item), journal collection (yellow and 150 item), document collection
(brown and 30 items), red sport collection (red and 25 item) and reference
collection (blue and 300 item).

The reason of why such standard are chosen because more easier book on the
same subject would be together on the shelf and book are more organized. By
using this system user can browse the materials that have a similar subject with
easy. Every books look similar but went use system can attract person that is
trying to find book about a specific category. A unique colour for main subjects
will always help the main subject of books together on the shelf. This standard
will save user’s time to retrieve the material. Sometime user want get the
information faster so using this system can save time and get more resource that
user want. Topics are listed/classified by subject and makes it easy for the reader
to narrow down what they are looking for a find it quickly.

Besides that, in retrieving of materials is more straightforward. User no need

to find every book at each shelf because this system has their own specific code
that user can use to search resource easier. If you know the number ought to be,
sometime you can just go to the shelf directly without looking up your subject in
catalog. The shelving is more consistent. Its class mark will act as a specific

8
address. This way does not make library users feel dizzy or fibrous to search
material in our library. This system also makes shelving books and locating books
within a library very simple. You simply locate the number of the book you are
looking for and you find it within the library.

2.3 Storage space

Storage space can be define as the area in any structure that provides space
for storage. Storage units also allow for a variety of different functions depending
on how often the materials are in use and the types of retrieval methods that will
be implemented. In our library have one space that located at back of the library
for keep the book. This place is huge that can put a lot of book that various of
user can use. Storage place is not designed to accommodate readers librarians
only can entering the area because to simplify librarian doing their job.

This storage space is available for new materials that are placed for
temporarily. Our library receive new book every month with this space our
librarian can put the book before do compilation for library user do a research and
read. With libraries able to hold millions of books and constantly adding new
books to their shelves annually, the staff must organize the space effectively to
create the optimal user experience for everyone. Rare materials and old books
also placed in this storage space before it is being recycle. Sometime our library
user need resource from past years ago so our librarian put this material at storage
place to easily they retake the source user need to get the searching information.

The storage space is also uses to keep materials that are sponsored or given
by the visitor or seller. Our library accept book from outsiders because can added
more library collection and often get reference material, story book, magazine,
and newspaper. Librarian need to ensures that the most appropriate printed
material is kept in the most suitable and useful location for readers. When the
book already has at shelf library user can get new books to borrowing for find
their information and can also to read. Every material that our librarian put is at
different shelf according the resources and this for avoid from mixing the
material. When the material are maxing, can give burden to librarian for
separated the resource and taking lot of time to finished.

9
2.4 Promotional space for new items/arrivals

Every new items or arrival to our library will be located front of the library
nearly with main entrance. This place is strategic position to attract many people
to come at promotion space after entering the entrance to see the new material
that we provide for them. This method also make user of our library will notice
existence of the new material. Plus by using promotional space library user can
check new book for their searching work and can find new information. This
place we also create a special book display which is include dictionaries, recipe
books, maps, comic strips, chapter books, magazines, photo albums, diaries, etc.
People use this place can take pictures of your group during story time and
display them near your book display.

Beside this space for put new collection of book, our library also can make
user will always aware about activities being held in the library. Among special
events that can be done at this space is reading campaign that all user form
children to senior citizen can do which is they just have sitting at the area for
readers to browse, read, or do research. We also provide writing campaign which
is we have tables and chairs for adults writing their research paper, and kids do
their homework. Beside event include all user our library also provide event for
children and adult to attract community to know function of this space. For
children usually we do colouring competition, public speaking, board games,
video viewing, browsing and borrowing, and etc.

While for adult we provide talk for community. Our library not just do talk
in the morning but also do at night because want give community to gain new
exposure and atmosphere and change the perspective of some people who think
that nighttime is not appropriate to hold scientific activities in the library. This
way also to preserving lifelong learning regardless of time and forming a
generation of young people who always accompany the library to achieve, seek
and gain knowledge. Next, our library also do a talk about how to access
information using our Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) and explain what
is basic retrieval tools that using in our library. With all of this event in
promotional space user will be more concerned and interested to wait for the
arrival of the new material.

3.0 Participant

12
Natural libraries can be classified in public library categories. A public library is a
library that is open to the public and generally funded by taxes at the municipal,
district covering several municipalities, county, state, or federal level.

Public libraries exist in most nations of the world and are often considered an
essential part of having an educated and literate population. IFLA/UNESCO Public
Library Manifesto 1994 writes "This Manifesto proclaims UNESCO's belief in the
public library as a living force for education, culture and information, and as an
essential agent for the fostering of peace and spiritual welfare through the minds of
men and women.

This library is attended by all categories of people from 9-year-olds to the elderly.
Various reading materials are available to suit the category of users in this library.
This themes of library is very suitable for all kind of people and the participant are
include children, old people and everyone.

4.0 Classification

While catalogs aim to identify and list items in a collection, schemes of classification
have a more general application in arranging documents in a sequence that will make
sense and be helpful to the user. Because they display subjects, and not documents,
they can be used in several libraries, and some indeed have found applications in
many different countries. Like schemes for grouping entries in catalogs,
classifications—whether of knowledge based on philosophical principles, of the
subject faculties of universities, or of the pragmatic grouping of books on shelves—
have formed the basis of many individual systems. Like the Dewey decimal
classification, the Universal Decimal Classification has been translated into many
languages, and it is in use in many European and Asian libraries. European libraries,
in particular, have emphasized classification systems over subject heading systems,
basing their subject catalogs on the classification system, with an alphabetic index to
class numbers. The revision of the Universal Decimal Classification has become a
responsibility of the International Federation for Information and Documentation
(Federation Internationale information ET de Documentation; FID).

13
4.1 Way of Classification

Classification of libraries is a system of knowledge organizations whose

library resources are organized and systematically ordered. Classification of
libraries uses a notation system that represents the sequence of topics in the
classification and allows the item to be stored in the order. The library
classification system has a group-related material together, usually set in a
hierarchical tree structure. Different classification systems, called faceted
classification systems, are also widely used that allow the assignment of
multiple classifications to objects, allowing classification to be ordered in
various ways. There are several library classification systems used in the
creation of 'Nature Library'.

For a classification system that can be used or chosen by our Library is the
best of the Dewey Decimal System because this most famous system of all
schemes for the classification of documents in the library is the Dewey's
decimal classification, created by Melvil Dewey in 1873 and published in
1876. In addition the first modern classification scheme for libraries, the
Dewey system encompasses two Dewey's contributions to the theory and
practice of librarians. First, he acknowledged that the arrangement of books on
systematic rackets should make sense to consumers; .Therefore, his scheme
reflects the current pattern of thought exemplified by "classifying science."
And secondly, he uses decimal as a notation symbol, which describes the way
the subject is divided hierarchically, from the main class to the particular
topic. In addition, classification is used to organize library materials by
specific subjects and to allocate call numbers.

4.2 Standardizations

14
Standardization is the process of creating standards to guide the creation of a
good or service based on the consensus of all the relevant parties in the
industry. The standards ensure that goods or services produced in a specific
industry come with consistent quality and are equivalent to other comparable
products or services in the same industry.

Standardization also helps in ensuring the safety, interoperability, and

compatibility of the goods produces in the market. Some of the parties that
must be involved in the standardization processes include users, interest
groups, governments, corporations, as well as standards organizations .The
standardization of our library ‘The Nature Library ‘is about the quality of the
product and services that the library give to user. The aim of the working
group is the adoption of international ISO standards and IFLA standards on
librarianship. The main areas of standardisation are library statistics, library
terminology, library acquisition, cataloguing, description, preservation and
digitisation of library resources, and information technology. The
standardization that has been USED for the establishment of the Nature
Library is based on the DDC standard (Dewey's decimal classification).

Outline of Dewey Decimal Classification:

 000-009 Generalities
 100-199 Philosophy & Related Areas
 200-299 Religion
 300-399 The Social Science
 400-499 Language
 500-599 Pure Science
 600-699 Technology (Applied Sc.)
 700-799 The Arts
 800-899 Language and Rhetoric
 900-999 General Geography, History etc.

The Dewey Decimal system and the Library of Congress system, mentioned
below, are the classification schemes most frequently used in North American

15
libraries. This system are the most suitable for our library and suitable to all
type of library.

4.3 Identification

Proof of identity; the proving that a person, subject, or article before the court
is the very same that he or it is alleged, charged, or reputed to be; as where a
witness recognizes the prisoner at the bar as the same person whom he saw
committing the crime; or where handwriting, stolen goods, counterfeit coin,
etc., are recognized as the same which once passed under the observation of
the person identifying them. Identitas vera colligitur ex multitu- dine
signorum. True identity is collected from a multitude of signs. Bac. Max.

Classification and identification are part of the more inclusive term

systematics. Systematics is "the scientific study of the kinds and diversity of
organisms and of any and all relationships among them" Within this broad
definition are thus included classification ["the ordering of organisms into
groups (or sets) on the basis of their relationships" ,identification ["the
allocation or assignment of additional unidentified objects to the correct class
once a classification has been established" , and taxonomy ["the theoretical
study of classification, including its bases, principles, procedures and rules" .
It must be emphasized that these definitions are not adopted ball authors.
Taxonomy and classification are used by some to denote systematics (as
defined above). Others consider taxonomy to be the more inclusive term, with
systematics a part of it. Classification is also rather loosely used as a synonym
of identification by some writers.

16
Natural Library Identification is used in this library as identification with
each call number, we place different hexagonal adhesive colours is different in
order to facilitate the material being searched by librarians and library users.

This nature library are designed for people in average such as children and adult
to connect to the nature. “Today, via a library’s outdoor learning space, librarians are
participating in the growing movement to connect children and adults with the
environment. The using of library will prove the advancement of technology that will
give better experience for users in using library services. In today's libraries have
become centers for the movement that supports community, and those facing religious
persecution. They are free public spaces that allow everyone to feel safe and to find
opportunity. Whether you're a family looking for a fun story time, an immigrant in
need of language resources, an unemployed individual searching for job help, or a
community member who needs help on their taxes, you can all go to one place: the
library. There, communities come together to learn, share, and celebrate where they
live, who they are, and what they want to become. Libraries truly are remarkable
places, and in today's world, we need them now more than ever.

Generally, this nature libraries is suitable to use for people nowadays. However,
we specifically suggested this nature libraries to be applied in public libraries as
community can spend their time to find exact materials for their research and learning
thus they can yield more knowledge through their works and research that can be
