2. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in part A.


3. Part B consists of 5 units. Answer any one ful question from each unit. Each question
carries 10 marks and may have a,b,c as sub questions.
PART-A (25 Marks)
1. a) How do you classify the types of elements? What are those? [2M]
b) What is the role of Back emf in DC motors? [2M]
c) Define Indicating & recording instruments. [2M]
d) Why we are using filters in rectifiers? [2M]
e) Draw the input/output characteristics of common emitter configuration? [2M]
2. a) Three capacitors A, B and C have capacitance 10, 50 and 25µF, respectively. Calculate the charge of
the circuit when in series to a 250V supply and the total capacitance. [3M]
b) Write the functions of Brushes & commutator in DC generator? [3M]
c) What is meant by slip? Derive an expression for the frequency of rotor current in an induction
motor. [3M]
d) Explain series voltage regulator with neat sketch? [3M]
e) Draw and explain the basic structure of a N-P-N transistor? [3M]
PART – B(50 Marks)
3. a) Find the current supplied by the battery in the network of figure. [5M]

b) For the network shown in figure, determine the currents in all the branches and also find the power
loss in all the branches. [5M]

4. a) Find currents in all the branches of the network shown in figure. [5M]
b) Find the voltage between points A and B shown in figure. [5M]

5. a) Derive the EMF equation of a DC generator. [5M]


b) Explain the construction and working principle of 1-φ transformer. [5M]
6. a) Write about the types of DC motor with expressions and figures. [5M]
b) Determine the value of torque in N-m units established by the armature of a 4-pole motor having 760
conductors, two paths in parallel, 28mWb per pole when the total armature current is 50 Amps. [5M]
7. a) Derive the Torque equation of the three phase induction motor. [5M]
b) A 3-phase induction motor runs at 1440rpm at full load when supplied power from a 50Hz, 3-phase
line. Calculate the (i)slip at full load, (ii)frequency of rotor voltage and (iii)speed of rotor at a slip of
10%. [5M]
8. a) Derive the EMF equation of synchronous generator. [5M]
b) Explain the working principle of Moving iron instrument with a neat sketch. [5M]
9. a) Name the reverse break down regions of zener diode? And explain them [5M]
b) What is zener effect? Explain how zener diode act as voltage regulator? [5M]
10. a) Derive the expressions for efficiency (η) and I RMS of half wave rectifier? [5M]
b) Calculate the percentage of ripple for the voltage developed across a 120µF capacitor when
providing a load current of 80mA. The full-wave rectifier operating from the 50Hz supply develops a
peak rectified voltage of 24V? [5M]
11. a) Draw and explain the operation of common base configuration with characteristics? [5M]
b) A common base transistor amplifier has an input resistance of 20Ω and out resistance of 100kΩ. If a
signal of 400mV is applied between emitter and base. Find voltage amplification. Assume α AC to be
nearly one. [5M]
12. a) Determine the value of emitter current and collector current of a transistor having α = 0.98 and
collector to base leakage current ICBO = 4µA. the base current is 50µA? [5M]
b) Explain the operation of CE amplifier with suitable diagrams? [5M]
