SAP EWM Posting change is a change of product stock categories in EWM, such as
SAP EWM blog
unrestricted stock to blocked stock, or change in the product or batch number. It’s basically
changing a stock type or batch or product in a Extended Warehouse Management (EWM)
system.

The process of posting change varies based on their warehouse structure and rules. Some
Warehouses allow stock type changes within the bin and some would like to physically
move out products to other bin locations. Also considering where the posting change
triggers, some businesses trigger request in ERP and some trigger directly in EWM.
Where ever it triggers finally postings get updated both EWM and ERP. This blog posts will
explain you how we can map Distribution centers posting change process in SAP EWM
system.

SAP EWM posting change functionality is very flexible to map for business scenarios. The
main controlling factor of posting change is in the warehouse process type settings. The
warehouse process type will allow posting change with in a bin or other bin by creating
WO where you pick and putaway product. For example if I need to change a product stock
type or a batch with in a bin then I may use transaction code /N/SCWM/POST but if I need
a physical movement of product change over then I need posting delivery document that
may give Warehouse order for pick and pack & putaway product.

Typically, I may need two warehouse process types for one warehouse system. 1) Posting
change with in a Bin 2) Posting change in a destination bin.
For both warehouse process types we need Whse process Category as “7 (Posting
change)”.

A. SAP EWM Posting change with in a Bin:

Based on warehouse process type setting as shown below, the posting change can be
posted directly during creation time and within the bin (no physical movement). Generally
we can use this warehouse process type in the transaction of /N/SCWM/POST. This

https://www.tkreddy.com/2017/02/25/understanding-posting-change/ 7/30/2018
SAP EWM Posting change Page 3 of 23

transaction will create and post the changes immediately with a WT(warehouse material
SAP EWM blog
document) category 7 and can be seen in the monitor.

B. SAP EWM Posting change in a destination bin:

Below shown warehouse process type setting with indicator “2” as post change in bin. This
means the posting change can be created with a warehouse task/ Warehouse order and
product should goes to a destination bin. Generally we use this warehouse process type
during posting change delivery (a warehouse request document and a sub sequence
warehouse task).

Posting change created in EWM:

https://www.tkreddy.com/2017/02/25/understanding-posting-change/ 7/30/2018
SAP EWM Posting change Page 4 of 23

You can create a posting change directly in SAP EWM by using transaction
SAP EWM blog
code /N/SCWM/POST or create a posting change delivery document from
transaction /N/SCWM/IM_PC and once posted finally goods movement communicated to
SAP ERP.

Posting change created in ERP:

Posting change originates in ERP system from MB1B or MIGO transaction. Once posted
in ERP causes an outbound delivery document created and distributed to EWM system as
a warehouse request document.

SAP EWM Posting change delivery example scenario:

Now we look into a complete design of posting change process for product change from
Article A to Article B by picking, packing and putaway steps. Warehouse staff needs to
physically pick the Articles into HU and labeling the new article bar code and putaway back
in the bin.

First, we create a standard material document posting with MB1B of movement type 309
that creates a standard outbound delivery and distribute to EWM system.

I would like to break the total configurations into five parts.

1. Configurations related to Posting Change Delivery Document

2. Configurations related to Warehouse process type and Work Center Storage
type
3. Configurations related to Storage Control setup for pick pack and putaway
process
4. Configurations related to Strategies- search sequence for stock removal and

5. Configurations related to WOCR, Activity area and Master data setup

Now we go though each and every area to setup the process
