Problem I. In the figure shown, there is a gap of 20 mm between


the beam and support under B before the loads are applied. 2000N/m
E = 10GPa and I = 20 x 106 mm4 , find the following using DIM.
1. Vertical reaction at support A (N)
2. Moment at A (N m)
3. Slope at the midspan (degree) 4m
4. Vertical displacement at the midspan (mm)

Problem II. From the beam shown, EI is constant. Solve for the following using MAM.

5. Slope at D (Nm2/EI)
6. tB/A (Nm3/EI)
7. Deflection at the application of the couple (Nm3/EI)
8. Deflection at the application of the point load (Nm3/EI)

Problem III. The beam has a loose fit built-in support at B which allows the end of the beam to rotate
through the angle Ө0 = 0.75° when the load is applied, as shown in the detail. E = 72 GPa and
I = 120 x 106mm4. Using CONJUGATE BEAM METHOD, determine the following:

9. Reaction at A (kN)
10. Moment at B (kN m)
11. Slope at A in radians
12. Displacement at the application of 200kN load
