SPECIFIC LEARNING At the end of the lesson, the students shall be able to:

III. LEARNING PROCEDURES
A. PRELIMINARIES  Prayer

 Classroom Management
B. REVIEW Ask the following questions:
1. What was our previous lesson about?
2. What have you learned about the previous lesson?
C. MOTIVATION The activity will serve as the motivation.
D. ACTIVITIES Arrange the Letters to Form a Word.
The teacher will divide the class into three
groups. Then, the students need to arrange the
letters to form a word through the help of the
given clues. This activity will reveal the topic of
the day.
E. ABSTRACTION Clause - a group of words that includes a subject and a
verb.
Subject Verb
Examples:
Subordinating Conjunction I eat bananas.
Preposition Bill took the folder.

Two Types of Clause

A. Independent Clause
Express a complete thought (and can be a
standalone sentence).
Examples:
I ate the Pineapple.
John saw some people practicing yoga.
B. Dependent Clause
Usually a supporting part of a sentence, and it
cannot stand by itself as a meaningful proposition
(idea).
Examples:
Because it was delicious
While walking at the park

Phrase - A phrase does not contain a subject and verb


and, consequently, cannot convey a complete thought.
Examples:
drink juice
at a concert
on the table

Sentence - a set of words that is complete in itself,


typically containing a subject and predicate.

Four Types of Sentence Structure

A. Simple Sentence.
A simple sentence has just one independent
clause.
Example:
a.) Bill took the folder.

B. Compound Sentence.
A compound sentence has at least two
independent clauses.
Example:
a.) I ate the Pineapple and I drink juice.

C. Complex Sentence
A complex sentence has an independent clause
and at least one dependent clause.

D. Compound-Complex Sentence.
A compound-complex sentence has at least two
independent clauses and at least one dependent
clause.
Example:
a.) The team captain jumped for joy, and the fans cheered
because we won the state championship.

OR
When we won the state championship,

the team captain jumped for joy, and the fans


cheered.

F. APPLICATION Let’s have a try!

I. Instruction: Decide whether the underline section is a


phrase and clause. Write your answer on the space
provided.

Example:
Clause 1.) On Saturday, I went to the cinema.

_____ 2. Perry sang beautifully at the school concert.
_____ 3. The red balloon floated above the treetops.
_____ 4. Noah slurped his milkshake as quickly as
possible.
_____ 5. The majestic elephant trumpeted loudly at the

II. Underline the Independent Clause ONCE and the


Dependent Clause TWICE, then, identify its sentence

Sentence; CoS – Complex Sentence; or CCS –
Compound- Complex Sentence.

Example:
CoS 1. Because I can’t wait, I will go walking.

_____ 7. Until the sun sets, I will stay with you.
_____ 8. The man stood up.
_____ 9. Because I paid attention, I got 95% on the test
and I was so happy.
_____ 10. I cooked dinner and he washed the dishes.
G. ANALYSIS The teacher will ask the students the following:
 Today’s learnings
 Importance of knowing clauses, phrases and
sentences.

H. EVALUATION The Application serves as the evaluation.
