Lesson Plan - Blind Bartemaeus

The document provides a lesson plan about the biblical story of Jesus healing the blind man Bartimaeus. It includes the scripture reference of Mark 10:46-52, background on the characters of Bartimaeus and Jesus, and a progression of events detailing how Bartimaeus called out to Jesus and was healed. The key points are that Bartimaeus was persistent in prayer despite others trying to silence him, and Jesus responded to his faithful cry for healing, allowing him to receive his sight. The conclusion ties this to how Jesus responds to persistent prayer and how we are all spiritually blind without him.

INTRODUCTION:
Has any of you tried to get to somewhere in the dark? What happens? (stumble & fall, lose my way,
make a mistake). We have to find the torch and put it on, right? Today we are going to learn about a
man that was born blind, which means, he has never seen before. We will learn of how he found light
and a new way of living.

PROGRESSION OF EVENTS
Mark 10:46-52; Luke 18:35–43

 Jesus and his disciples visited Jericho

 As they were leaving Jericho a great number of people followed them
 Blind Bartimaeus was seated by the highway side begging
(Luke 18:36 And hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant.)
 He heard that it was Jesus
 He cries out, “Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me!”
 Many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou son
of David, have mercy on me.
(Luke 18:39 And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the
more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”)
 Jesus stopped walking and stood still; He commanded them to call the blind man
 The people brought Bartimaeus to Jesus saying, “be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.”
 Bartimaeus cast aside his beggars garment, rose and went to Jesus
 Jesus told him, “What wilt thou that I should do unto thee?”
 Bartimaeus replied, “Lord, that I might receive my sight.”
 Jesus said unto him, “Go thy way, thy faith hath made thee whole.
 Bartimaeus immediately received sight
 Bartimaeus went on to follow Jesus in the way
(Luke 18:43b And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him,
glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.)

High Points (& meaning):

Begging was a way of life for Bartimaeus; he could not find much work because of his blindness.

He saw an opportunity for deliverance and cried out unashamedly.

Blind Bartimaeus did not give up when Jesus did not respond the first time (persistant prayer)

When people told him to stop, he shouted even louder - Blind Bartimaeus had a need and he wasn’t
about to be silence by people.

Finally, Jesus responded to the fervent and persistent cry (faith) of Bartimaeus - He is moved by our
faith.

CONCLUSION:
Jesus responds to our fervent and persistent prayer.
We are spiritually blind. When Jesus touches us, He causes us to see our sin, repent and be saved.

MEMORY VERSE:
“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” - (James 5:16 KJV)

APPLICATION:
Persist in prayer until you see the answer. Prayer fervently.
Give your heart to Jesus
