METHOD STATEMENT FOR ROAD

OBJECTIVE: Preparation of sub-grade, laying of sub-base, water bound macadam,


bituminous & seal coat for roads.

REFERNCE: Client/Consultant AFC Drawings

INSTRUMENTS: Theodolite, Leveling Instruments, Line Dories, Templates, Water Tankers,


Rollers, Bitumen Heating Stoves, Templates Etc.,

B) Sprinkle slightly the water on sub-grade and Site Site Engineer

(2) SUB-BASE

A) Ensure the sub-grade is completely dry Site Site Engineer


before start to lay the sub-base. Engineer

B) In no case the aggregates shall be dumped Site Site Engineer


directly on the prepared surface. Engineer

C) Ensure the width of the sub-case course


shall be 150mm more on either side than of Site Site Engineer

been formed of the screenings.

A) (3) WATER BOUND MACDUM COURSE Site Site Engineer


Check the finished surface of sub-base for Engineer
correct camber and slopes and carry out any
rectification and repairs if required.

B) Clear the surface of sub-base free of dust and Site Site Engineer

correct camber except on super-elevated
portions.

FIRST APPLICATION OF BITUMEN.


A) Bitumen of grade 80/100 shall be heated to Site Site Engineer

B) Ensure before applying bitumen the Site Site Engineer


surface is thoroughly dry for its entire Engineer

distributor so to distribute the bitumen in a Engineer
uniform spray.

D) Apply the bitumen at the rate of 1.5 Kg/m2 Site Site Engineer
liquid seal coat of hot Premix Asphalt Engineer
(80/100 Grade) by pressure distributor and
blinding the surface with Grid and stone
dust at 1 CUM/ 100 SQM and rolling with
10 tonnes smooth wheel roller to proper
camber or super elevation and gradient
etc.

E) The temperature shall be checked often Site Site Engineer


with the thermometer to maintain the Engineer
temperature of bitumen for spraying.

F) The distributor shall be able to spray to Site Site Engineer


normal width of not less than 2 mtrs. Engineer

FILLING SURFACE VOIDS WITH


INTERMEDIATE AGGREGATES

G) After the first application of bitumen and Site Site Engineer


while still in warm, a thin layer of dry Engineer
intermediate aggregate consisting of
12.50mm metal chips shall be spread at
the rate of 21.3m2 /100 m2 and broom
