Introduction

This report is a summarized research of the topic ‘Telecommunication System’ Double

Storey Office. Telecommunication is a global term that indicates to the exchange of
information through electronic and electrical means over a significant distance. Another
term for telecommunications is telecom.

Telecommunication means communication over a long distance by using different

channels such as telephone, radio, fax, wireless network and etc. Initial
telecommunication transmissions used analog signals, which were transmitted over
copper wires. In todays, modern world telephone and cable companies are still using these
same lines, though majority of transmissions are now digital. Current telecommunications
wiring is executed with cables that are optimized for digital communication, such as the
fiber-optic cable and digital phone lines.

Besides, communication signals usually are analog signals and digital signals. Analog
modulation which is used in radio broadcasting is an amplitude modulation. As both the
analog and digital communications depend on electrical signals, transmitted data is
obtained almost instantaneously, regardless of the distance. This will allow users to quickly
communicate with others across the street or across the globe.

An effective telecommunication system is an essential component of any office building.

It permits rapid exchange of information between individuals located within the building
and connects them to others anywhere in the world. A typical office building has hundreds
of telecommunications cabling that must be correctly installed and properly managed in
order to provide essential communications.
Telecommunication System

The concept of the telecommunication system in building is modern telecommunication

is founded on a series of key concepts that experienced progressive development and
refinement in a period of well over a century.

Interpret the concept of telecommunication system design in building effectively

A telecommunications network is a collection of transmitters, receivers,
and communications channels that send messages to one another.

Communication over a distance by cable, telegraph, telephone, or broadcasting.

 A communication of information by electronic, usually over some distance.
 A collection of compatible hardware and software arranged to communicate
information from one location to other.
 The simplest form of communication takes place between 2 stations.

 Transceiver :
Combination of transmitter and a receiver in a single device which receive signal
or data.

 Wireless :
The free-space transmission and reception of data by means of electromagnetic
fields. Permit services such as long-range communications that are impossible or
impractical to implement with the use of wires.

Functions :
1. Transmits information between communication participants includes the use of
technology.
2. Establishes the interface between sender and receiver
3. Router the messages along the most efficient paths.
4. Ensures that the right message reaches the right user.
5. Performs editorial tasks such as checking for transmission errors.
Proposal of the telecommunication design,
components and justifications

The revolution in telecommunications systems is becoming more sophisticated to make

it easier for each other to connect and also faster and save time. This office building that
uses this system to facilitate all work.

Server Rack
Mainly it is used for accommodate IT
equipment such as servers, storage, HUB
and switches, to improve efficiency of
management and operation. There are
any types of server racks that exist for all
specific needs and situations.

Component of Server Rack

A server rack is made up of various parts,
large and small. Although the names of its components are called different by each
manufactures, they are similar in structure because of same use.

In a general server rack consists of these kinds of components below.

Typical components of server rack :

 Main frame
 Mounting rails
 Front door
 Rear door
 Side panel
 Top panel
 Base

The following are common elements of a server room.

• Hardware
Primary hardware such as servers and data storage devices.

• Racks
A system for stacking hardware such that space is used efficiently.

• Cabling
System A system and set of conventions for cabling that keeps the complexity of cables
managed. Ideally, this includes a raised floor or ceiling racks that keep cables out of the
way.

• Power
Server rooms typically consume significant power and may be designed to have
redundant power sources such as grid and solar power.

• UPS
Uninterruptible power supply devices are used to protect equipment from unstable
power such as a surge. They are also selected to provide enough secondary power to
endure a short power outage or have time to switch power sources. Operations
Processes and resources for supporting the server room including physical tasks such
as swapping devices.

 Infrastructure
Foundational services such as network equipment. A server room may be designed with
no single points of failure for critical infrastructure. For example, multiple connections to
the internet from different telecom companies.

• Physical Security
Protecting the assets in a server room with access control, monitoring, emergency
response, training and other internal controls.
• Fire Protection
Fire protection equipment, procedures and structures such as
a path for employees to
escape a fire in the server room.

• Environment Control
Control of humidity and air temperature. Computing
equipment runs hot and cooling is
a significant consideration in the design of a server room. For example, cool air can be
directed at racks from the floor and warm air collected from the ceiling.

• Backup
Backup of data and hot or cold sites for disaster recovery that are in a different physical
location, preferably in another city or region.

PABX
PBX stands for Private Branch Exchange, which is a private telephone network used within a company
or organization. The users of the PBX phone system can communicate internally (within their
company) and externally (with the outside world), using different communication channels like Voice
over IP, ISDN or analog. A PBX also allows you to have more phones than physical phone lines
(PTSN) and allows free calls between users. Additionally, it provides features like transfer calls,
voicemail, call recording, interactive voice menus (IVRs) and call queues.

Advantages
Telecommunication is an important tool for office building. It enables companies to
communicate effectively with customers and deliver high standards of customer service.
Telecommunication is also a key element in teamwork, allowing employees to
collaborate easily from wherever they are located. Mobile telecommunication gives
companies the opportunity to introduce more flexible working by allowing employees to
work efficiently from home. The introduction of smartphones gives employees new levels
of productivity and capability on the move.

General specification
Telecommunication room
A number of telecom rooms will be require in a building and it is depend on its
characteristics. The room type are:

- Main telecom room

- Mobile service room
- Rooftop mobile service room
- Floor telecom closet
Telecom rooms must not be in close proximity to any source of the following:

- Heat
- Moisture
- High voltages
- Radio frequency interference
- Electro-magnetic interference

Telecom rooms must not be directly beneath or next to wet area such as:

- Showers
- Washrooms
- Garbage area.

Telecom rooms free from unrelated item such as:

- Utility pipes
- Sprinkler systems
- Window

Safety and other considerations taken in telecommunication spaces:

 Should be fitted with smoke detectors connect to the building management system.
 Should be fitted with emergency lighting.

 Pathway opening to telecom spaces must be sealed with a regulation fire retardant
material.
 All doors to telecom rooms must be a of solid wood core or steel construction, fire
retardant with a minimum rating of 2 hours.
 All doors to telecom rooms must be outward opening with an automatic door closer
system fitted on a hinged edge.
 All doors must be labeled.

 The rooms must be free from contaminate and pollutants.

 All telecom rooms should have basic firefighting provision of hand-held extinguishers.
 All telecom rooms must be maintained at 20 ‘c and the relative humidity at 50%.
However, for the floor telecom closed can be maintained within 20’c to 30’c

 Telecom rooms must be secured from unauthorised entry but easily accessible 24
hours a day for any authority in-charged.

Conclusion

In conclusion, telecommunication system globally is something that people can

expect as technology advances. Wireless communications has a lot of benefits and can
make the world a lot more efficient. It does have concerns though as with every other new
advancement that is made in today’s world. The issues with security regarding access to
a person’s personal information or the negative impact that it may seem to have on society
are a few things that are holding back the progress that wireless technology could be
making. With more research and experiments conducted, the problems associated with
telecommunication system can be reduced and make it a more significant part of the
world. Telecommunication system wireless technology will be very important in the near
future where the need for wires connecting individual devices seems to be coming to an
end.
