Non-Destructive Testing
(NDT)
N on-destructive testing (NDT) is a wide group of analysis techniques
used in Mechanical Industry to evaluate the properties of a component
or system without damaging it. Common NDT methods include Ultra-
sonic Testing, Magnetic-Particle Testing, Liquid Penetrant Testing,
Radiographic Testing, remote visual inspection (RVI), eddy-current
testing, and low coherence interferometry. NDT has wide range of
applications commonly used in forensic engineering, mechanical engi-
neering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, systems engineering,
aeronautical engineering, medicine and art.

It is necessary that the candidate successfully completes theoretical and

practical training program, as well as perform practical application of
the particular method they wish to be trained in. At this point, they

become more popular, many certifying bodies will require additional

practical training. In industrial sectors the written practices are usually
based on recommended practice SNT-TC-1A of the American Society
for Non-destructive Testing. ANSI standard CP-189 outlines require-
ments for any written practice that conforms to the standard.
M
Level 3 (although some codes specify roman numerals, like Level II). The roles and
responsibilities of personnel in each level are as follows :
Level 1
tests under close supervision and direction by higher level personnel. They can
only report test results and they
procedures and rejection criteria.
Level 2 are Engineers/Experienced technicians who are able to set up and
calibrate testing equipment, conduct the inspection according to codes and stan-
dards and compile work instructions for Level 1 technicians. They are also autho-
rized to report, interpret, evaluate and document testing results. They can also
supervise and train Level 1 technicians. In addition to testing methods, they must be
familiar with applicable codes and standards and have knowledge of the manufacture
and service of tested products.
Level 3 are Specialized Engineers/Experienced Technicians. They can establish
NDT techniques and procedures and interpret codes and standards. They also
direct NDT laboratories and have
are expected to have wider knowledge covering materials, fabrication and
product technology.

CSWIP(C
C -
tion provided to personnel who has completed his training and examination in
tion for the same is issued by The Welding Institute
(TWI) which is a UK based institute. There are two levels in CSWIP (3.1&3.2), where
the personnel who have completed his CSWIP 3.1 will be working as a welding

senior welding inspector. The duties of a welding inspector is to conduct

inspection on the already performed welds by various ndt methods and to con-
and also monitor trial tests being done on the
same.
BGAS(British GAS)
British gas approval scheme (BGAS) addresses numerous paint types and
systems used in the construction industry and are suitable for candidates
with or without experience in industrial painting. The course is largely
theoretical but involves hands-on experience with relevant inspection
equipment and a bias towards British Gas/National Grid painting practices.

attending this course would go on to attempt the BGAS-CSWIP Painting

Inspector Grade 3/2 painting inspector which includes Corrosion theory,
Surface preparation, Paint formulation, Paint systems, Curing and drying,

safety, Working practices. Candidates may upgrade to BAGS-CSWIP Senior

and 3 subject areas, Paint technology (advanced),Paint testing (advanced),-

for welding inspectors, metal joining and cutting process, weld joint geometry and
welding symbols, welding metallurgy and weld metal discontinuities, visual inspection
and other NDT methods, WPS/PQR as per ASME SEC IX,welding process at your works
and improvement scopes and case studies as per your scope of work.
NACE
(National Association of Corrosion Engineers)
T he NACE Coating Inspector Program(CIP) has set the stan-
dard for inspections in the protective coatings industry and is

designed to improve the overall quality of inspections

performed, and it continues to provide the most complete
training curriculum, producing top-notch inspectors for the
industry. NACE has recently enhanced the CIP learning experi-
ence with more hands-on time with new inspection methods
and equipment, better graphics and video presentation as well
as additional emphasis on international standards.CIP intro-
duces inspectors, applications, blasters, manufacturers, own-

basics of corrosion control, paint inspection, and project

1,2 & 3 where we provide CIP Level 1&2. CIP level1 is an

instruction on the technical and practical fundamentals of
coating inspection work for structural steel projects. This
course provides students with knowledge of coating materials
and techniques for surface preparation and application that
prepares the student to perform basic coating inspections
using non-destructive techniques and inspection instrumenta-
tion. CIP Level 2 is a six-day course that focuses on advanced
inspection techniques and specialized application methods for
both steel and non-steel substrates, including concrete. The
course provides in-depth coverage of surface preparation;
coating types inspection criteria, lab testing, failure modes for
various coatings, including specialized coatings and linings.

in-service Inspectors (not companies) involved in the in-service inspection of pressure
vessels, pipe work and Storage tanks. It is used extensively in the USA (it is a legal
requirement in many states) and in Other countries that use API/ASME codes. The API

ASME codes relating to the type of equipment covered. They are: API 510: Pressure
vessel inspector, API 570: Pipe work inspector, API 653: Storage tank inspector These 3

supplementary ones, most limited in application to the USA. Two do have technical
relevance to supplement API 510/570/653 content so we run UK online programmes on
these. They are: API 580: Risk-based inspection (RBI), API 571: Damage mechanisms
(DMs).
Lead Auditor Training Program
IRCA
“Quality Management System (QMS) Auditor/Lead Auditor Training Course (ISO
9001)” course
system audits in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO 19011, “Guidelines for audit-
ing management systems”. Experienced tutors will guide delegates through the
entire audit process, from initiating the audit through to conducting audit
follow-up.

By attending this course delegates will gain necessary auditing skills developed
through a balance of formal classroom tutorials, practical role-playing, group work-
shops, and open forum discussions.

Upon completion of this training, delegates will be able to describe the pur-
pose of a quality management system, of quality management systems stan-
dards, of management system audit
role of an auditor to plan, conduct, report and follow up a quality management
system audit in accordance with ISO 19011 (and ISO 17021 where appropriate). Plan,
conduct, report and follow up an audit of a quality management system to establish
conformity (or otherwise) with ISO 9001 and in accordance with ISO 19011 (and ISO
17021 where appropriate).
training course by passing the rele-
vant IRCA examination and skills assessment, will demonstrate knowledge and
basic skills to undertake and lead a management systems audit.
