The document proposes a new energy policy called Swach Bharat Aviyan that would provide electricity to every household by 2020. It addresses the problems of inefficient solid waste management and increasing energy demands in India. The proposal suggests generating steam from incinerating solid municipal waste and using this to produce electricity. This would provide both efficient waste management by reducing dumping in open lands as well as cleaner power generation.

Enter Topic: Swach Bharat Aviyan, Efficient waste management and generation

of clean and renewable power using municipal solid waste

Enter Description: It is a new energy policy with which every household will be
electrified by 2020.Solid Waste management has become troublesome issue in
most of the cities. Our cities are more burdened with municipal solid waste
and the present practice of dumping of the waste in an open land cannot be a
permanent solution. Thus we propose incineration of the solid waste for
generation of steam and subsequent production of power which provides
efficient management of waste and cleaner power generation to meet the
increasing energy demand of the country.

1.What novelty do you see in the proposed research/project work by the

student(s)?
The project proposed deals with the two most critical problem associated with
the development of a nation i.e. Increasing energy demand and waste
management which is accomplished by efficient waste management and
power generation techniques proposed by the students.

2. Is it feasible to carry out the proposed work with the facilities available in-
house? If yes,
please mention how the project/research work shall be carried out.
The power generation using municipal solid waste involves the following
 Collection of waste at the doorstep and the street by the collection crew
 First level of separation of waste into
1. Wet waste including kitchen and vegetable waste
2. Plastic, Textiles, Rubber
3. Paper, cardboard, wood
4. Soil and building waste including glass and metal
 Second level separation of waste into compostable, non-
compostible,recyclable,non-recyclable,combustible,non-combustible etc
 Incineration of waste resulting into steam
 Steam turbine running a generator.
3. Mention the research gap that the proposed project/research work
intends to fill.
Currently waste management techniques include disposing and recycling of
the waste such that it does not create problem for mankind, but the proposed
project indentifies the waste as recyclable, reusable and non recyclable waste
and further using the non-recyclable waste for power generation which
provides an efficient waste management technique.

5. What are the expected research/project outcomes from the proposal

submitted by the students?
The proposed project provides an effective way to control waste and
avail energy to meet the increasing demand, effective implementation of
the proposed project can solve the real life problem associated with
waste management on large scale. However, research can be done to
further exaggerate the waste management practice to effectively use
the liquid Municipal waste for power generation.
