Teenage pregnancy, also known as adolescent pregnancy, refers to pregnancy in females under the age of 20. In the Philippines, 1 in 10 young Filipino women ages 15-19 are already mothers or pregnant with their first child. The Philippines has the third highest adolescent birth rate among 11 Southeast Asian nations. In Dulag, Leyte, there were 101 reported teenage pregnancies in 2018 and 86 cases from January to September 2019, with the youngest being 13 years old. Increased rates are often due to a lack of awareness and knowledge about human fertility and modern family planning methods, as well as easy access to pornographic materials and premarital sex.
