1. To estimate mortar for plastering, compute the area and multiply .02 or .012 to obtain
volume.
2. To obtain bags of cement: Vol. % 13 and for sand: vol. x 1.06. Before obtaining bags of
cement and cu.m. of sand, determine first the no. face to be plastered and class of mixture.

BATTERBOARD
1. To estimate batterboard, first compute the area of the structure in s.m. Multiply the area by
4.85 bdft. For 2x2 lumber, 7.28 bdft. For 2x3 lumber. Then total board ft. divide by 2 will

SCAFFOLDING
1. Compute the floor area plus the area of the four elevation then multiply by the no. of storey
for floor of the structure.
2. To obtain bd.ft. of lumber: Total area x 6.75 = total bdft.of 2x3 lumber
3. To obtain nails: Divide the total bdft. By 2500 = keg. Of nails. Note: 1 keg of nails is
equivalent to 45 kilos.
4. Other solution in obtaining nails: Total bdft. Divide by 1000 then mulitiply by 15 = kilos of

FORMWORKS
1. To estimate formworks, compute the area of the item that need formwork.
2. To obtain bdft. Of lumber multiply the area by the corresponding factor on the conversion
table for formworks. After obtaining the total bdft. Divide it to the no. of uses.
3. To estimate ½ x 4 x 8 sht. Board plywood, divide the total area by 2.88 then divide by no.
of uses.
4. For nails: Total bdft. Divide by 2500 = keg.
5. For tie wire: Total bdft. Divide by 4000 = roll
6. The Formoil: Change the area of s.m. to s.f. then divide by 200 = gals. Of oil.
FLOOR JOIST
1. To estimate floor joint board ft. per s.m., compute the area then multiply by corresponding
factor shown in the floor joist conversion.
2. For nails use same procedure as of the forworks for keg of nails or divide the total bdft. By
1000 then multiply by 11.4 for kilos of 4” c.w.
1. To estimate bdft. Of studs at .60 o.c. for sidings using 2 x 3 multiply the area by 9.84, for 2
x 2: Area x 6.54, For 2 x 4: Area x 13.08, For 13.08, For 2 x 5: 16.38.
2. To obtain nails: divide the total bdft. By 1000 then multiply by 6.8 to obtain kilos. Of 3”
c.w.
3. For Stone cut sidings, compute the lineal meter of spread then multiply by 20 pcs./l.m. for
1 x 3, 13.16 pcs./l.m. for 1 x 4; 7.87 pcs./l.m. for 1 x 6; and 5.95 pcs./l.m. for 1 x 8.
4. To obtain nails; divide the total bdft. By 1000 then multiply by 9.10 for kilos of 2-1/2
finishing.
WOODEN FLOORING
1. To estimate T&C flooring, compute the lineal meter of spread then multiply by 16.66
pcs./l.m. for 1 x 3 T&C, 11.77 pcs./l.m. for 1 x 4; 7.87 pcs./ l.m. 1 x 6 T&C; 5.34 pcs./l.m.
for 1 x 8 T&C.
2. To obtain nails: divide the total bdft. By 1000 then multiply by 13.6 for 2-1/2” finishing
nails.

DOUBLE WALLING
1. to estimate plywood double walling of a sidings, divide the total area by 2.88 pcs. Plywood.
2. To obtain nails: pcs. Of plywood x 2 then divide by 100 then multiply by 9.10 for 1”
finishing.
CEILING JOINT
1. Compute the area of the ceiling: Area 6.54 for 2 x 2 lumber, Area x 9.84 for 2 x 3 lumber,
Area x 2.66 for 2 x 2 ceiling hanger.
2. For nails: use same procedure as of baseboard, then multiply by 9.10 for 3” c.w.
BASEBOARD
1. To estimate bdft. Of baseboard: L.M. x 1.09 for 1 x 4 lumber, L.M. x 1.37 for 1 x 5 and
L.M. x 1.64 for 1 x 6 lumber.
2. To obtain nails: Divide the total bdft. By 1000 then multiply by 5.5 for 1/1/2 finishing
nails.
CEILING BOARD
1. To estimate plywood using ¼ x 4 x 8: divide the area by 2.88: For .60 x 1.20 lawanit or
acoustic board: divide the area by 0.72.
2. For nails: same procedure of double walling.
1. Divide the length and width by .60 and 1.20 to obtain no. of pcs. Of aluminum tee runner.
Then multiply by the length of installation to obtain total length of aluminum.
2. Note that the commercial length of aluminum tee runner is 20’ or 6.00. To obtain pcs.;
divide the total length by 20’ or 6.00 in lineal meter.
3. For 12 guide wire: total area x 6.54 divide by 4000 = roll.

FACIA BOARD
1. Compute the total lineal meter of the end roof all around, to obtain total bdft.: L.M. x 2.73
for 1 x 10, L.M. x 3.28 for 1 x 12, and L.M. x 2.18 for 1 x 8 fascia lumber.
2. For nails: Divide the total bdft. By 1000 then multiply by 5.5 for 2/1/2” c.w. nails.
1. To obtain total bdft.: make an actual counting of the member of the trusses or rafter then
compute the bdft. Of it’s member according to the size and length of the lumber to be used.
2. After computing the bdft. Of the lumber for one (1) truss or rafter, multiply this by the no.
of unit specified in the framing plan.
3. For nails: use same procedure then multiply by 6.8 for kilos of 3” 4” C.W. nails.
PURLINS
1. To estimate total bdft. Of purlins: make an actual counting of the purlins shown in the roof
plan or truss and rafter details. Compute the bdft. According to size and length.
2. Or compute the area in sq.m. then multiply: Area x 3.271 for 2 x 3, Area x 4.309 for 2 x 4,
Area x 5.321 for 2 x 5, and Area x 6.335 for 2 x 6 lumber.
3. For Cleats: Area x 3.44 2 x 3, 4.571 for 2 x 4, 5.458 for 2 x 5 and 6.50 for 2 x 6.
ROOFING
1. To estimate roofing by area: solve the total area in flat then add the pitch factor (sum of 1
and 2 percentage), the total is the slotted area of the roof.
2. Divide the slotted area by factor from the table of G.I. Sht. Coverage.

5. To obtain gutter, ridge roll, valley roll, flashing: Divide the total run or spread by factor:
2.10 for ridge & valley roll and flashing. 2.25 for gutter & valley roll and flashing. 2.25 for
gutter & downspout. For copper rivet; no. of pcs. Of joint multiply by 8 pcs. Then divide
by 50 = No. of box, If in kilo: No. of pcs. Divide by 160 kilos.
6. For nikolite: No. of joint x ¼ or 4 or length in foot divide by 24 will give you kilos.
7. For muriatic acid: Pcs. Of nikolite x 10 cc = total cc of muriatic.
