Chapter 1
Overview
The NetNumen Local Craft Terminal (LCT for short), which is designed for local
maintenance operation with Graphic User Interface (GUI), can replace traditional
Command Line Interface (CLI) because of its convenience and flexibility. It can be
installed on common PCs or notebooks.

Features
Compared with the NetNumen Network Management System (NMS) software, the LCT
has the following features:
l Easy and quick installation, less than 30 minutes.
l Low requirement for operating system and hardware, as listed in Table 1-1.

Table 1-1 LCT Requirements

Item Requirement

Operating system Windows XP/Windows 7 series versions (32 bit/64 bit)

Hardware Processor with a clock rate of about 2 GHz

2 GByte RAM
4 GByte hard disk
Network interface card with RJ45 connector

Function
The LCT supports the following functions:
l Configuration management
l Fault management
l Performance management
l Diagnosis management
l Security management
l Context-sensitive help

The LCT supports the same style and operations as the NetNumen Network Element
Management System (EMS).

After you install the LCT on a PC/notebook, you can connect the PC/notebook to the F
interface (the first interface of the HUSQ card in slot 19) on the ZXA10 C300 directly.
Usually, the LCT manages only one Optical Line Terminal (OLT) at the same time.

Note:
If there is no electrical interface available, you can use an optical-electrical converter (SFP
module) to convert the optical interface to electrical interface.

4.1 Access Management

After you start the LCT, you can create a ZXA10 C300 NE by either of the following method:

l Discover the NE automatically

In the automatic discovery, you need not know the NE IP address in advance, and
just specify the network segment, SNMP version, and authentication information.

The LCT polls IP addresses in the network segment automatically, and adds those
NEs that pass the authentication automatically.
l Create the NE manually

In the manual NE creation, you need know the NE IP address in advance, and specify
the NE type, SNMP version, and authentication information.

User Group
The ZXA10 C300 supports four default user groups, as listed in Table 4-1.

4.12.14 MPLS Service Configuration

4.12.14.1 Overview
The Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) protocol is originally developed to increase the
forwarding speed of the routers. Having prominent advantages in the applications of traffic
engineering and VPN, the MPLS protocol plays an important role in IP networks.
The key point of the MPLS protocol is the concept of labels, which are short,
easy-to-handle, and without topology information. Labels contain information that only
takes effect in a certain area.
At the beginning, the MPLS focus on IPv4. However, the key techniques of the MPLS can
be expanded to multiple protocols, such as IPv6, IPX, Apple-talk, and SNA. The MPLS
has no limitation on the link layer techniques and can transport network groups through
any medium between network entities.
MPLS packets are forwarded based on labels. When IP packets enter an MPLS network,
the PE routers on the MPLS ingress analyze the contents of the packets and select the
proper labels for the packets. The packets are forwarded by nodes in the MPLS network
according to these short labels. When the packets leave the MPLS network, the PE routes
on the MPLS egress remove the labels.

5.1 Authenticating the ONU

Short Description
Perform this procedure to authenticate the ONU.

Prerequisites
Before this operation, make sure that:

l You have logged in to the NetNumen NMS.

l In-band NM is configured.
l The ZXA10 C300 communicates with the NMS properly.
l The GPON ONU is connected to the OLT properly.

Context
This topic takes the ZXHN F601 (F601 for short) as an example.
To authenticate the ONU, perform the following steps:

Steps
1. In the NetNumen Local Craft Terminal window, right-click the ZXA10 C300 NE and
choose ONU Configuration to open the ONU Configuration window.
2. Select the card and the PON port to display all ONUs connected to the PON port, as
shown in Figure 5-1.

Parameter Description

Name ONU name

ONU Type ONU type profile configured on the OLT device

ONU Scenario The ZXA10 C300 supports three virtual port modes:
l GEM port
l ONU
l Manual
By default, ONU scenario is working in GEM port mode. In
this mode, one virtual port (vport) corresponds to one GEM
port.

Auth Mode The ZXA10 C300 supports three authentication modes:

l SN: Serial number
l Password
l SN + Password

Auth Value SN/password

Splitter ID Configured according to the actual networking

Target State l Deactive: The OLT cannot manage the ONU.

l OMCI ready: The OLT can manage the ONU through
the OMCI.

DBA Mode The ZXA10 C300 supports two DBA modes:

l SR (Status Reporting): The OLT requests the ONU to
report the usage status of its T-CONT buffer.
l NSR (Non Status Reporting)

Management IP and Route When you select Management IP and Route Configuration,
Configuration you need to configure ONU IP, Mask, Management VLAN,
Destination, Route Mask, and Gateway.
For F601, it is unnecessary to configure this parameter.

5. On the Maintenance Parameters tab, configure the parameters, as shown in Figure

5-3, and then click OK.

A.1 Overview
The fault management function enables users to monitor and manage the faults and events
in the whole network in a centralized manner.
Users can monitor and view the alarms in the network in real-time or even filter the
unwanted alarms based on certain conditions. Alarms can be presented in a vivid manner
to the network maintenance staff, such as audible alarms, visual alarms and alarm boxes.
This section contains common functions of fault management in daily routine maintenance,
including:
l Customizing Polling Tasks
l Starting Alarm Monitoring
l Customizing Display Columns
l Customizing the Current Alarm Query Profile
l Customizing the History Alarm Query Profile
For details about fault management, please refer to NetNumen N31 Alarm Manageme
nt Operation Guide.

3. Configure the parameters, and then click OK.

Table A-1 describes the polling task parameters.

Table A-1 Polling Task Parameter Description

Parameter Description

Interval Interval for polling all the NEs

l When there are more than 3000 NEs in the network, the interval
needs to be set to at least 10 minutes.
l When there are more than 5000 NEs in the network, it is
recommended to use the external NE link polling tool.

Timeout Polling timeout

Default: 5 seconds

Retry Retry times for a polling

Default: 0

Threshold Threshold for reporting alarms

If the alarm threshold is set to 1, the NE needs to poll twice and confirm
that the link is down before reporting the alarm. That is, if the alarm
threshold is set to N, the NE needs to poll N + 1 times and confirm that
the link is down before reporting the alarm.
