 Preparing for use

Fitting the tube / telescopic

^ Fit the tube with the square hole
facing upwards into the vacuum
cleaner housing and gently twist until
it engages.
To remove the tube:
^ Press the release catch (see inset)
and pull off with a gentle twist.

Fitting the hand piece

^ Fit the hand piece with the square
hole facing upwards into the tube /
telescopic tube and gently twist until
it engages.
To detach the two parts,

The hand piece can also be fitted

Preparing for use
The tube / telescopic tube can also be
used as a suction tube by fitting it
between the floor attachment and the
cleaner.
This extends the reach of the cleaner,
making it easier to vacuum underneath
low furniture.

Attaching the floor attachment

^ Attach the floor attachment either to
the vacuum cleaner connection stub
or to the end of the tube / telescopic
tube and gently and twist until it
engages.
To remove the floor attachment:
^ Press the release catch (see arrow)
and pull off with a gentle twist.

Rewinding the mains cable

When the cleaner is not in use the
cable can be wound around the two
cable hooks.
Secure the cable by clamping the plug
(depending on country) to the cable
(see inset).

The following are supplied with the
cleaner:

The filter frame is supplied separately in
the box only with those models, which
are fitted with an "ACTIVE air clean" or
"HEPA" exhaust filter as standard. The
filter frame needs to be used if you wish
to replace one of these filters with a
"SUPER air clean" filter at a future date
(see "Replacing one type of filter with
another").

The lower cable hook swivels round.
^ Turn it upwards so that the cable can
be removed easily.

Adjusting the telescopic tube

(depending on model)
One part of the telescopic tube is
packed inside the other and can be
adjusted to suit your height for
comfortable vacuum cleaning.
^ Press the telescopic tube release
button (see arrow) to adjust to the
required length.

Switching on
^ Insert the plug into a suitable
switched socket (U.K.).
^ To prevent the cable from getting in
the way whilst you are vacuuming,
hang the unwound cable over the
cable hook in the handle (see inset).
This also takes the strain off the
cable-entry bush.

To enable the vacuum cleaner to be
conveniently operated in any
vacuum-cleaning situation, two
separate switches have been
integrated into the unit’s handle. Either
of the switches can be used to operate
the vacuum cleaner.

Double slide switch

max = Maximum suction
^ To turn the appliance on, slide either
switch to either the min or max.
^ To turn the appliance off, slide either
switch to the 0 position.
Select min for vacuuming lightweight
items such as rugs or curtains.

Adjusting the suction power

(depending on model)
On some models the suction power can
be regulated to suit the type of flooring.
The higher the setting the more
powerful the suction. Select the suction
setting to suit the amount of dirt and the
type of material to be vacuumed.
Slightly soiled and smooth floor
coverings can be cleaned at an
energy-saving medium setting,
whereas thick-pile and fitted carpets
require the highest setting to ensure
deep-seated dirt is thoroughly
removed. The highest setting should
also be selected if a Turbobrush is
used.

Adjusting the floor attachment

to the type of floor covering
The floorhead can be used for all
normal cleaning of carpets and rugs. It
can also be used with the brush
protruding to vacuum hard flooring
which is not susceptible to scratching.
For hard flooring, such as stone and
floors which are susceptible to
scratching, e.g. parquet, we
recommend using one of the special
Miele floor brushes (see "Accessories
available as optional extras").
Vacuum carpets and rugs with the
brush retracted:
^ Press the foot switch to g.
Clean hard flooring which is not
susceptible to scratching with the brush
protruding:
^ Press the foot switch to h.

Setting down, transportation and storage
The end cap on the telescopic
handpiece is made from slip-proof
plastic. During short vacuuming breaks,
the appliance can be leaned upright
against a wall or furniture.

Before leaving the vacuum cleaner,

make sure it is switched off and if
you lean against the wall make sure
it is at a safe angle so that it cannot
fall over.

When using the floor brush or the

parquet floor brush we recommend that
you hang the vacuum cleaner up when
storing it, to protect the bristles.
For longer term storage, the vacuum
cleaner can also be hung on a wall
hook by using the grommet integrated
in the handle.

Replacing the dustbag

^ Press the release catch for the dust
compartment lid and raise the lid until
it clicks into place.

The dustbag has a collar which closes

automatically when the dustbag is
removed to prevent any dust escaping.
^ Holding the bag by the collar, lift it
away from the suction socket and
then pull it out of its holder.
The dustbag can be disposed of with
the normal household waste as long as
it has only been used for vacuuming up
normal household dust and not
hazardous materials.
Do not unfold the bag when you take it
out of the packet. Keeping it folded will
prevent it from getting trapped when
the dust compartment lid is closed.
^ Slide the collar of the new dustbag
into the empty holder until it is
secured in position.
^ Close the dust compartment lid
firmly. When the lid is closed the
holder automatically draws the bag
collar over the inlet stub.

,If there is no dustbag in the

holder, or the dustbag has not been
inserted correctly, the compartment
lid will not close properly.
Do not attempt to force the lid shut.

Replacing the dust

^ Unclip the filter frame, remove the old
filter and replace with a new one.
^ Close the filter frame firmly.

Replacing a "SUPER air clean"

on the rear of the vacuum cleaner
and remove the lid.

^ Remove the used filter, holding by the

Replacing an "ACTIVE air

clean" or "HEPA" filter
^ Press the release catch for the
exhaust filter compartment lid located
on the rear of the vacuum cleaner
and remove the lid.

^ Remove the used filter from the lid

and replace it with a new one.
^ Make a note of the replacement date
on the label on the new filter.

^ Replace the lid and close it again.

Replacing the thread lifters

The thread lifters on the suction
aperture of the floor attachment and the
upholstery nozzle should be checked
from time to time and replaced if the
pile is worn.
^ Use a knife or similar object to
remove them from the slots.
^ Fit the new thread lifters.
These are available from your Miele
dealer or from the Miele Spare Parts
Department.

 Replacing one type of filter with another
Depending on model, your vacuum
cleaner is fitted with one of the following
exhaust filters as standard:
a SUPER air clean
b ACTIVE air clean
c HEPA
You may use one of the other filters
instead of the one supplied as standard
with your vacuum cleaner if you wish.
See "Accessories available as optional
extras" for an explanation of the
differences between the filter types.

Please note
1. If you wish to replace filter a with filter
b or c, the filter frame in the lid of the
exhaust filter compartment must be
removed. The new filter should be fitted
in its place.
2. If you want to replace filter b or c with
filter a the filter frame must be fitted in
the lid of the exhaust filter

To remove or insert the filter frame

^ Grasp the sides of the filter frame in
the positions shown by the arrows
and squeeze. The frame can then be
inserted or removed as desired.

be cleaned with a dry cloth or a slightly
damp cloth or with a proprietary
cleaner suitable for plastic.

Dust compartment
The dust compartment can, if
necessary, be cleaned using a dry
duster, dusting brush or, if available, a
second vacuum cleaner to suck the
dust out.

there is the risk of an electric shock.

Turbobrush
The Turbobrush is particularly suitable
for vacuuming cut pile carpeting and is
operated by the suction power of the
vacuum cleaner. It has a rotating brush
which is very effective at picking up
thread, hairs and fluff.

It is also important to observe the

Hand-held Turbobrush
The hand-held Turbobrush is intended
for vacuuming upholstery, mattresses,
car seats, carpeted stairs and other
areas inaccessible to the standard

The Electrobrush is particularly suitable
for intensive vacuuming of carpets
which are subject to hard wear. It is

to give greater versatility.

(standard or optional accessory

This is a special active charcoal filter
which absorbs odours from the dust
collected in the dustbag. It helps,
therefore to prevent the build up of
odours.
The ACTIVE air clean filter can used in
place of the existing filter. There is no
difference in filtration level between the
ACTIVE air clean filter and the SUPER
air clean filter. See "Replacing one type
of filter with another".
Do not use aroma capsules in your
cleaner if it is fitted with this filter.

HEPA filter
(standard or optional accessory

This is a HEPA class particle filter
conforming to EN 1822. It is able to
filter out very fine particles and
microorganisms.

of the existing exhaust filter. See

Do not use aroma capsules in your
cleaner if it is fitted with this filter.

 Problem solving guide
The vacuum cleaner switches itself
off.
A temperature limiter switches the
vacuum cleaner off automatically if it
gets too hot.
This can occur if, for instance, large
articles block the suction tube or when
the dustbag is full or contains particles
of fine dust. A heavily soiled exhaust or
dust compartment filter can also be the
cause of overheating. In this case,
please switch off the vacuum cleaner.
After removing the cause, wait for
approx. 20 - 30 minutes, so that the
vacuum cleaner can cool down. It can
then be switched on again.
