Practical Research - Chapter 1

This study aims to determine if taro resin can be an effective alternative to commercial glues. Commercial glues often contain chemicals that may pose health risks, while taro resin is natural. The study will test taro resin's feasibility, durability, stickiness and sustainability as an all-purpose glue. It will examine how to process taro resin into a glue and compare its effectiveness and stickiness to commercial glues. If shown to be a viable substitute, taro resin glue could benefit industries, households and taro vendors by providing a cheaper and more sustainable option. The research also intends to contribute to knowledge on natural product alternatives and guide future studies.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

A student’s buying experience on a school supply store wouldn’t be complete without

purchasing a glue. Glue, particularly commercial glue is of the necessities of a student
in their work productions. Even kids from the elementary department already
encounter usage of commercial glue from their surroundings. However, most of
commercial glues were made from chemical compounds, thus placing the children’s
health at risk. According to Loeschen (2019), modern commercial glues polyvinyl
acetate emulsions as its basis. Polyvinyl acetate is a synthetic compound they use to
provide the stickiness necessary for a glue. As supported by the metabolimic
innovation centre (n.d.). Although, polyvinyl acetates is not considered poisonous. Due
to these matters, the researchers have noticed that no analysis have been done about
the production of organic glues and through series of observations conclude that
organic resins can be a substitutes for a commercial glue. Hence, this leads them to
conduct a study entitled “Taro’s (Colocasia Esculenta) Resin and its Fundamentality
as an Alternative All- Purpose Glue”.

Economical aspect could enclose the native of the problem, feasibly this idea had not
been prioritized and focused on the quality and effectiveness of the product.
Researchers conduct this research since no existing scientific study regarding taro’s
resin as an alternative glue. If synthetic resin could act as a major component of glue,
what more an organic one can do would it be more expensive or not. In addition, the
researchers will test the capability of organic resin to be an eligible substitute to the
synthetic resin which is a major chemical component of the commercial glue. Is there
difference between the commercial glue and to the taro’s resin glue in terms of: a)
stickiness, b) odor, c) durability. Thereby, the future researchers would like to know if
taro’s resin glue can be an alternative to the commercial glue.

Ensuing, the purpose of the research is preponderance to define and identify the level
of effectiveness of taro’s resin as an alternative all- purpose glue. Furthermore, to
attain the purpose statistical treatments and experimental methods will strictly be
followed. Accordingly, there will be some undetermined gaps that will remain to be
explored in a research scopes.
STATEMENT OF THE PURPOSE

This study entitled “Taro’s (Colocasisa Esculenta) Resin And Its Fundamentality As an Alternative
All- Purpose Glue” aims to determine the fundamentality of Taro’s (Colocasia Esculenta) Resin as a
substitute to all- purpose glue. This research will seek answers to the following questions:

1.) How effective is Taro’s (Colocasia Esculenta) resin as an alternative all- purpose glue in terms
of:

a) Feasibility
b) Durability
c) Sustainablity
d) Stickiness

2.) How the Taro’s (Colocasia Esculenta) resin be processed as an aggregate for all- purpose glue?

3.) What are the significant differences between the Taro’s resin and an all- purpose glue in terms
of:

a) Effectiveness
b) Stickiness on items (smooth and rough surfaces)

These following set of questions are essential in order to satisfy the following conditions:

a) Identify the effectiveness of Taro’s resin as a substitute to all- purpose glue;

b) Determine the steps in making of the experimental product;
c) Distinguish the differences between the controlled and experimental group
SCOPES AND LIMITATION

The research study will test the fundamentality of Taro’s (Colocasia Esculenta) resin as an
alternative all- purpose glue for which this research is considered experimental. This study
will expose and share knowledge for it will give an innovative and eco-friendly substitute
product. Likewise, this research study is focused on testing and examining its adequacy as for
a) cohesiveness.

This experimental research confines its inclusion on the fundamentality of Taro’s resin as a
substitute all-purpose glue in the assurance that the substitute glue will satisfy the
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The study entitled “Taro’s (Colocasia Esculenta) Resin and Its Fundamentality as an
Alternative All- Purpose Glue” will provide significant and flexible analysis towards the
organic taro’s resin as possible option over commercialized glue. Moreover, upon obtaining the
research objectives, this research study are expected to benefit the following:

Industrial- Taro’s (Colocasia Esculenta) resin as an alternative all- purpose glue would help
small companies in a way where it provides more economical expenses more than the
commercialized one gives.

Household- Taro’s resin can be extracted from the excess used from cooking. With this way,
they maximize the used of taro and practice the act of resourcefulness at the same time.

Taro Vendors- They are considered to be the beneficiaries of the study for this research will
help to increase the demand of taro by synthesizing another beneficials of the said plant
particularly as an alternative to all-purpose glue.

Future Researchers- The ideas in this study may be used as a reference data in conducting a
new research. This also may help them to have guide if they will pursue these studies and
knowledgable on the process invalued the taro’s resin as an alternative all-purpose glue.
