Anglo-American Literature

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is a study of the literature of America, with a background in English Literature. This is
designed to give learners a broad understanding of the literary periods of English and American literature from
the period of exploration and settlement to the present. Through a critical examination of these literary works,
students will develop a deeper understanding of some of the main issues and movement that shape American
Literature and will stimulate a greater appreciation of language as an artistic medium and of the aesthetic
principles that shape literary works.

OBJECTIVES

By the end of the course, the learners will:


1. Demonstrate communicative competence through their understanding of Anglo-American Literature and
other text types;
2. Develop analytical and critical thinking skills through reading, discussion, and written assignments;
3. Deepen their awareness of the universal human concerns that are the basis for literary works;
4 .Enhance communication skills through expression of ideas in written and oral communication;
5. Understand literature as an expression of human values within an historical and social context;
6. Appreciate the works of English and American authors and apply the concepts learned in their own lives;
