Network Cabling
Network Cabling
I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the period, 70% of the students should be able to:
1. identify the tools and materials used in network cabling;
2. memorizes the color coding of wires used in straight-through ethernet cable;
3. create (1) (T568B) straight-through ethernet cable;
4. demonstrate Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) while working.
III. PROCEDURE:
A. Preparatory Activity:
1. Daily Routine
1.1. Opening prayer
1.2. Greetings
1.3. Checking of attendance
3. Drill
Ask 3 students on what things they can possibly use the internet in their
daily lives.
4. Motivation
Show pictures of online computer games that uses ethernet connection and
ask the student if they know how it works.
5. Unlocking of Difficulty
5.1. Router - small electronic devices that join multiple computer networks
together via either wired or wireless connections.
5.2. Crimping - joining two pieces of metal (usually a wire and a metal plate) by
deforming one or both to hold the other.
5.3. Pin - piece of metal used to fasten two things together.
6. Application
Direction: Two groups of students will create a (T568B) Straight-Through
Ethernet Cable by following the steps in creating a network cable for 15
minutes. (Each student will alternately do each step until they are finish)
7. Generalization
Ethernet Cabling is the standard for connecting computers and devices to a
LAN network. In addition, there are types of ethernet cables, the Cross-Over
and Straight-Through. Where in Straight-Through is the most widely used
connection between a computer and a network device.
8. Evaluation
Refer to the Evaluation Sheet.
C. Agreement
1. Assignment:
What is Cross-over Ethernet Cable?
What is the color code of Cross-over Ethernet Cable?
EVALUATION SHEET
Direction: Write the missing color code in the Straight-Through Connection Wiring Diagram, and
color the wire accordingly. Write the letter of your answer on the space provided.
