A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 5

(Quarter 3, Week 1, Day 3)

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
a. infer the meaning of words based on the given context clues (synonyms and antonyms);
b. give the synonyms and antonyms of common words;
c. show love of one’s country by enumerating beautiful spots in the Philippines; and
d. read grade level text with accuracy, appropriate rate, proper expression and comprehension.

Yesterday, you were able to infer the meaning of
compound words through context clues. Give me
examples of compound words that you learned
yesterday.

2. Motivation
I have here a topic wheel which has a question at the (The learners will read the question.)
center. Would you mind reading it, class?

Now, let us answer, What are the beautiful things


found in our country? Would you give one?
(The learners will give the beautiful things found in
our country.)
3. Presentation
Today, we are going to study about synonyms and
antonyms. At the end of this lesson, you will be able
to infer the meaning of unfamiliar words (synonyms
and antonyms) through context clues. And you will
be able to give the synonyms and antonyms of
common words.

Do you know what synonyms and antonyms are?


(Learners’ answers vary.)
If yes, follow up question, let the pupils give
examples. If no, give the definition of synonyms and
antonyms and give examples.

4. Unlocking of Difficulties
To better understand synonyms and antonyms, we are
going to read a poem titled, My Native Land by
Esmeraldo B. Pascua. But before that, let us first
unlock unfamiliar terms found in the poem.
Rearrange the letters and give the meaning of
the word then use each word in your own
sentence.
