to the BTS site locally, connect the PC to the LMP port on the System Module (FSM) using 10baseT Ethernet cable with RJ-45 connector. In a remote connection, the connection is established via DCN network.
If the PC is connected to the FSM
LMP port, specify your PC's network settings to match the following settings: IP address: 192.168.255.130, Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0.
Launch BTS Manager 1. Choose Start Programs Nokia Managers BTS Site Manager 2. If you want to establish a local connection, select the Local option from the IP Address list. 3. If you want to establish a remote connection, define the IP address of the remote BTS. 4. Enter the Username and Password if necessary. By default the user authentication is not in use and you do not need to enter the username and password. If the user authentication is enabled, defining these parameters is mandatory.
Update BTS Software In the Update SW to BTS Site dialog box you can update new software to the BTS site. This procedure does not download those application files existing in the Flexi WCDMA BTS or Flexi Transport submodule that have the same version information. You can view the current SW versions in the Site Information dialog box by choosing the Software → SW Versions menu item.
Update Software to BTS Site 1. Launch Nokia WCDMA BTS Site Manager. 2. Choose the Software → Update SW to BTS Site menu item. 3. The Update SW to BTS Site dialog box opens. 4. Click the Select File button to locate the master file containing the new software. 5. The Select Build Descriptor dialog box opens.
Select Build Descriptor 1. Locate and select the master file (TargetBD_WNx.x_x.x-x.xml), and click the Open button. The new SW version is displayed in the Update SW to BTS Site dialog box. 2. Select the Activate SW After Update check box to enable the activation of the new software in accordance with SW updating. Note: If you do not want to activate the new software at the same time with downloading it, you can leave the option unchecked, and the SW is downloaded to the BTS site in the background only. To activate the SW later with the Activate SW After Update option selected, you have to perform the SW update again. 3. Click the Update button. The Update button is enabled if a valid master file has been selected.
Software Update Report 1. SW download takes about 20 minutes. The time depends on the number of items to be downloaded and the bandwidth of the DCN connection, for example. 2. The Update Progress steps show the transfer status. Wait for the SW update to be completed. 3. If the Activate SW After Update check box was selected, the SW will be activated and the site will be reset. 4. If you want to stop the SW update, click the Stop button. 5. If the SW download fails, update the software again. 6. If you want to view information on the SW download, click the View Report button. 7. The Software Update Report dialog box opens. 8. Click Close to close the Update SW to BTS Site dialog box.
Manual Commissioning If no commissioning file is available, Nokia Flexi WCDMA BTS site has to be commissioned manually. The Flexi WCDMA BTS and/or Flexi Transport submodule (TRS) are commissioned with the commissioning wizard in Nokia WCDMA BTS Site Manager. Commissioning can be started when the modules are in 'Initialised' state.
Manual Commissioning 1. Choose the View → Commissioning menu item or click the Commissioning button on the View Bar. The Commissioning – Introduction page opens. 2. Select the commissioning target by clicking the appropriate Option: BTS Site, BTS Only or TRS Only. 3. Select the Manual option. 4. Click the Next button
Define Site Properties 1. Enter the name of the BTS site in the Name field. 2. Enter the location in the Location field. 3. Enter the description of the element in the Description field. 4. Enter the BTS identifier in the BTS Id field. 5. Verify the AAL2 End Address in the A2EA field. 6. Define the following IP addresses: The supported format is IPv4. The following IP addresses should not be configured: . default address (0.0.0.0) . addresses in the subnet 127.x.x.x (reserved for loopbacks) . addresses in the subnet 192.168.254.xxx (internal address) . addresses in the subnet 192.168.255.xxx (internal address) . multicast address (224.0.0.0 - 239.255.255.255) . class E address (240.0.0.0 - 255.255.255.255) . broadcast address (255.255.255.255) . directed broadcast/network address (x.x.x.255/24 or x.x.x.0/24) 7. Define the IP addresses: • TRS IP address • Subnet Mask
Define Physical Layer Configuration 1. In the Commissioning - Physical Layer Configuration page you can configure physical interface properties, set primary and secondary synchronisation timing sources, and create IMA groups for PDH interfaces. During the commissioning at least one physical interface has to be taken in use and one interface has to be selected as the primary synchronisation timing source. 2. The following modules are supported: • Flexi Transport Optical STM-1 sub module, version A (FTOA) • Flexi Transport PDH E1/T1/JT1 symmetric sub module, version B • (FTPB) • Flexi Transport E1 asymmetric sub module, version B (FTEB) • Flexi Transport Hybrid E1/JT1/T1 Ethernet submodule, version A • (FTIA) • Flexi Transport Hybrid E1 Ethernet submodule, version A (FTJA) • Flexi Transport Flexbus sub module, version A (FTFA)
Define Physical Layer Configuration 1. Select the interface type from the Interface Type list. 1. For FTPB and FTIA the interface type can be E1, T1 or JT1. For 2. FTEB, FTJA and FTFA the interface is E1, and for FTOA STM-1. 2. If the interface type is E1, T1 or JT1, Select the check box in the In Use column to take the interface in use.
Define IMA Settings 1. If the interface type is E1, select the check box in the CRC On column if the Cyclic Redundancy Check is to be used. 2. If the interface type is T1, select the frame type from the list in the Frame Type column and the line build-out value from the list in the Lbo column. 3. Define the synchronisation timing source by selecting the Primary or Secondary option from the list in the Synchronisation column. 4. You can define one primary timing source and one secondary timing source. 5. If you want to include the interface in an IMA group, select the IMA group to which the interface belongs from the list in the IMA Group column.
Define Traffic Descriptors 1. In the Commissioning – Traffic descriptors page you can create traffic descriptors that specify capacities and types for ATM based connections between the BTS and RNC. You need to define at least four traffic descriptors: 1. BTS capacity on the VP level, 2. IUB signaling terminations, 3. AAL2 user path and 4. DCN interface
Define Traffic Descriptor 1. Click the New Traffic Descriptor button. 2. Enter the name of the traffic descriptor in the Name field. 3. Select the conformance definition of the ATM service category from the Conformance Definition list. 4. Enter the peak cell rate in the Peak Cell Rate (PCR) field. 5. Click the New Traffic Descriptor button to save the changes and create another traffic descriptor. 6. Repeat the procedure for all needed traffic descriptors. 7. If you want to delete an existing traffic descriptor or cancel the creation of a new traffic descriptor, click the Delete Traffic Descriptor button. 8. Click the Next button.
Define BTS IuB Terminations In the Commissioning - IUB Terminations to BTS page you can create IUB terminations that terminate different channels between the RNC and BTS on a virtual channel level. You need to define the following IUBs: Common NBAP, Dedicated NBAP, AAL2 Signalling and at least one AAL2 User Path.
Define IuB Terminations not via One Virtual Path 1. If the IUB Terminations via One Virtual Path option is not selected, define the settings as follows: When this page is opened, the New Common NBAP is created with the default values and added to the list. You can modify the settings if necessary. After configuring the Common NBAP, click the New Dedicated NBAP button and define the settings for the Dedicated NBAP. After that, click the New AAL2 Signalling button and define the settings. Finally, click the New AAL2 User Path button, and define the settings for at least one user path. Define the following settings for all IUB terminations: ATM Interface Virtual Path Id Virtual Path TRDE Virtual Channel Id Virtual Channel TRDE In addition, for AAL2 Signalling select the STC Alarm check box to enable the STC alarm, and for AAL2 User Path enter the Path Identifier. 2. Click the Next button.
Define the DCN Interface In the Commissioning - DCN Interfaces page you can define IP over one ATM interface. The DCN connections are used to establish a communication channel between the network element and NetAct™. Local management port (LMP) is used to allow or block the access of locally connected equipment accessing the DCN network.
Define the DCN Interface 1. Click the New ATM DCN Interface button, and define the following settings: 2. In this release only one DCN connection is supported. 3. By default the DCN is initialised in the same ATM interface where the IUB terminations are configured. The next free virtual path identifier is generated for the DCN and the virtual channel identifier is set to the default value (32). The destination address is initialised in the default gateway. 4. Define the ATM Parameters: 1. ATM Interface 2. Virtual Path Identifier 3. Virtual Path TRDE 4. Virtual Channel Id 5. Virtual Channel TRDE 6. Destination Address
Define the DCN Interface 1. The destination address is the IP address of the remote node to which the DCN interface is connected. The supported format is IPv4. 2. Select the LMP from the tree view, and modify the restricted mode if necessary. 3. Select the DCN Restricted Mode In Use check box to enable access only to the local BTS site. If the check box is not selected, other network elements within the same network can also be accessed via DCN connection. 4. Click the Next button.
Define BTS Settings In the Commissioning - BTS Settings page you can define BTS information. This page is shown when the BTS Only or the BTS Site option was selected in the Commissioning - Introduction page. If you selected the TRS Only option, continue to Sending parameters to BTS site.
Define BTS Settings 1. Enter your name in the Commissioning Author field. 2. Enter the BTS name in the BTS Name field if necessary. 3. Enter the name of the configuration in the Configuration Name field. 4. Select the local time zone from the Time Zone list. 5. Select the HSDPA Resource Allocation: BTS or Local Cell. 6. Select the In Use check box if Nokia Real Tilt is in use and, if you do so, enter the IP address in the Real Tilt IP Address field. 7. Define the module locations in the FSM and FR fields (optional). 8. If you want to define information on passive units of the site, click the Passive Units button. The Passive Units dialog box opens.
Define Local Cell Resources In the Commissioning - Local Cell Resources page you can create local cells, and define antennas of the radio modules and carrier power to the local cells. Local Cell Resource (LCR) is a concept for defining all hardware that a logical wideband cell (WCEL) requires in the base station.
Define Local Cell Resources 1. Define the cell id for the first cell in the Local Cells list. 2. Assign the antennas of radio modules to the local cell by selecting the appropriate check boxes. 3. Select the carrier power for the local cell from the Carrier Power list. 4. Click the New Cell button and repeat the procedure for each local cell you want to define. 5. Click the Next button. 1. The Next button is enabled if you have created at least one local cell and the settings for all defined local cells are valid.
Define Local Cell Settings In the Commissioning - Local Cell Settings page you can define Radio Network Controller (RNC) settings and intelligent shutdown parameters for local cells.
Define Local Cell Settings 1. Select the RNC type by clicking the appropriate option: Nokia or Other. If you select the Nokia option, the RNC settings are received from the Nokia RNC and you do not need to define the LCR Parameters and Gradual Shutdown Procedure. 2. If the selected RNC Type is Other, define the following settings: Define the settings for each local cell in the Local Cells list: 1. Cell Range 2. RACH Capacity 3. Expiration Time 4. Usage of Gradual Shutdown Procedure and, if it is used, 5. Shutdown Steps and Shutdown Window. 3. If the Intelligent Shutdown is meant to be used, select the In Use check box and define the following settings: 1. Mains Alarm Indication 2. External Alarm Line Id if you selected the Other BBU (reserves 1 EAC line) option 3. Shutdown Timeout for each local cell in the Local Cells list.
Define WCDMA Carrier Candidates In the Commissioning – WCDMA Carrier Candidates you can define WCDMA carrier frequencies. The allowed UTRAN Absolute Radio Frequency Channel Number (UARFCN) values for frequency bands are displayed below the Carrier Candidate table. The carrier candidates are used in testing purposes. After commissioning, when the BTS is entered in the Test Dedicated state, you can run different test models, BER test, site tests and WCDMA BTS loop test. The parameter uses the so- called UARFCN convention defined in the IUB specification. The UARFCN values are operator specific and defined by the 3GPP. The parameter specifies the downlink frequency.
Define UARFCN 1. Enter the UARFCN for each local cell in the UARFCN column. 1. At least one carrier must be defined for a frequency band; up to four different values can be defined for each frequency band. The frequencies are calculated according to the entered channel numbers and displayed in the Frequency MHz column. 2. Click the Next button.
Define Antenna Line Settings 1. In the Commissioning - Antenna Line Settings page you can define MHA and antenna settings. 2. The BTS has an integrated antenna line supervision in a radio module to control the antenna line condition by the VSWR measurement. The fixed limit for a minor VSWR alarm activation is 1.9, and for a major VSWR alarm activation 2.6. This integrated HW based functionality can be activated by downloading a valid license to the BTS. Also, you need to have a license in order to the MHA support to work. For more information on licenses, see the License Management document in the Nokia WCDMA RAN System Documentation. 3. MHA Settings are disabled for Flexi WCDMA BTS Mast Head RF modules.
Define Antenna Line Settings 1. Select the antenna from the Antennas list. 2. Select the MHA In Use check box if necessary, and define the following settings for the MHAs that are selected to be in use: 1. Serial Number 2. Product Code 3. MHA Type 4. . MHA Gain 5. .Depending If the selected MHA Type is WMHC, select the WMHC Port 3. Define the following antenna settings: 1. . Feeder Loss 2. . Multiplexer Usage (None, Diplexer or Triplexer) 3. . RTT Measurements: 4. Repeat the procedure for each antenna. 5. Click the Next button.
Define External Alarm and Control Settings 1. In the Commissioning - External Alarm and Control Settings page you can define external alarm and control lines for external devices. There are 12 external alarm lines and six external control lines. 2. If the Intelligent Shutdown is selected to be used in the Commissioning - Local Cell Settings page 3. Alarm Lines are reserved for the mains alarms depending on the BBU type, and two additional lines (13 and 14) are reserved for Flexi Power Module (FPM) alarms.
Define External Alarm and Control Settings 1. Define the following settings for the External Alarm Lines: 1. For the mains and FPM alarms, you can only change the polarity and the other settings are set to the default values. 2. Select the check box in the In Use column if the input device is in use. 3. Enter the name of the input device in the Name column. 4. Select the input device polarity from the list in the Polarity column: Normally Open or Normally Closed. 5. Select the input device severity from the list in the Severity column: Critical, Major or Minor. 2. Define the following settings for the External Control Lines: 1. Select the check box in the In Use column if the control is in 2. use. 3. Enter the control name in the Name column. 4. Select the initial state from the list in the Initial State column: 5. On or Off. 3. Click the Next button.
Send Parameters to BTS In the Commissioning – Send Parameters page you can send the previously entered commissioning parameters to the BTS site. You can also view the commissioning parameters and save them in an XML file.
View Parameters before sending 1. If you want to view the commissioning parameters before sending them to the site, click the View Parameters button. 2. The Commissioning - View Parameters dialog box opens
View Parameters 1. You can Click the Close button to close the dialog box and return to the Commissioning - Send Parameters page.
2. If you want to save the
commissioning parameters, click the Save Parameters button, and enter the file name and select the location for the file to be saved. 1. Saving the parameters produces a commissioning file that can be used in the template and planned commissioning. 3. Click the Send Parameters button. 1. In the template, manual and reconfiguration commissioning, if you have not saved the parameters before clicking the Send Parameters button, you will be asked if you want to save the parameters before sending them. You can follow the parameter transfer status in the page. 2. After the file transfer is complete, a site reset will follow and the Next button will become enabled. 4. Click the Next button.
Define Site Testing In the Commissioning - Site Testing page you can run tests on the commissioned site. The test results will be saved in the Commissioning Report.
Site Tests 1. Click the Test button for the Site Tests. The Site Tests dialog box opens. 2. Select the Test Duration by clicking the appropriate option, and click the Start button to start the test. When the test is started, the Test Results list shows the list of tests to be executed. The results are updated dynamically when the results are received from the BTS O&M. 3. If you want to stop the test, click the Stop button. If you want to save the test results, click the . button and enter the filename and location for the file in the Save Site Tests Results dialog box. 4. If you want to print the test results, click the . button and specify print options in the Print Site Tests Results dialog box. 5. Click Close to close the Site Tests dialog box and return to the Commissioning - Site Testing page.
WCDMA BTS Loop Test (2) 1. If for some reason you want to stop the test before it is finished, click the Stop button. 2. After the test is completed or stopped successfully you can view the test results in the Test Summary and Failure Details tabs. 3. The Test Summary tab displays the results of the completed loop tests. You can save the test results by clicking the Save Report button. You can view more detailed information on the test in the WCDMA Loop Test Report dialog box by clicking the View Report button.
WCDMA Loop Test Report 1. The Failure Details tab displays a list of failed connections with the failure reason: failed loops by the modules, and the source and description of the failure. 2. Click Close to close the WCDMA BTS Loop Test dialog box and return to the Commissioning - Site Testing page.
EAC Functionality Test 1. Click the Test button for the EAC functionality test. The Commissioning - EAC Functionality Test dialog box opens. 2. In the Alarms tab you can test EAC input lines by selecting the check box in the Selected To Test column. The Test Status is changed to 'Faulty'. Change the state of the supervised external device. After the state change notification is received from the BTS, the new state is displayed in the State column and the Test Status is changed to 'OK'. 3. In the Controls tab you can test the EAC output lines. Change the state of the output line in the State column. After the BTS has changed the state of the external control line, check the state of the supervised external device, and change the Test Status. The test results are saved in the Commissioning Report. 4. Click Close to close the Commissioning - EAC Functionality Test dialog box and return to the Commissioning - Site Testing page. 5. After you have run the desired tests, click the Next button.
Saving the Commissioning Report 1. In the Commissioning - Commissioning Report page you can save the commissioning report in a file on the PC. The report contains the parameters entered during commissioning, test results of the executed tests and list of active alarms if there are such alarms. The report is split in the sublevels, which you can expand or collapse by clicking the arrow. You can expand all levels or collapse all and you can view the contents of the report by scrolling down the list. 2. The report is an ASCII text file that you can open and check with any text editor. 3. If you want to save the parameters, click the “save” button, and enter the file name and select the location for the file to be saved. 4. Click the Finish button to finish the commissioning.
