General Requirements :
‘As general requirement for cleaning fabricated piping in the shop or in the
field, the inside surface of the fabricated piping shall be made free from slag,
loose scale, dirt, construction debris and other foreign matters.
The extent of the system to be flushed will be indicated on the marked-up
P&ID with the following items included:
1) Extent of the system to be flushed.
2) Location of intake and flush out points.
3) Location of isolation blinds and valves.

4) Temporary piping and strainer, if required,
5) Items of line instruments and others to be removed or isolated.
Operation valves to be set and prepared as per individual flushing scheme in the
field,
The Purpose for carrying out this blowing is:
To remove the slag, loose scale, dirt, construction debris and other foreign
matters.
5.1 Preparation and Precaution
It is necessary to take the following preparations and precautions before
the blowing:
1) Before Blowing, all related lines must be checked to be lined up as per
the marked up P&ID.
2) Temporary piping, suitable blind plates, screen, blow down popping
gaskets etc. are installed in accordance with the marked-up P&lD.
3) All in-line instrumentation like, flow meters, orifice plates, pressure gauge,
etc. are removed or isolated in accordance with the marked-up P&ID.
4) All sensitive equipments to damage during cleaning and flushing of the
piping system shall not be installed and shall be removed if installed prior
to commencing the cleaning process. The list of these equipments shall
be established during early stages of the execution of the project.
Examples of sensitive equipments are: rotating machinery, orifices,
control valves, flow-elements, soft-seated valves, globe valves, etc
(SAES-L-360, Para 14.1)
5) Barricade the area for safety and notify all concerned persons.
5.2 Based on the different operating requirements, working medium, system
loop, site condition and inner surface cleanliness, piping cleaning shall be
conformed in the following different cleaning methods.
1) Laue piping or gas piping whose diameter is larger than 36" is cleaned
manually cleaning, sweep and mop with scrapers, mops, and rags.
2) Gas piping whose diameter less than 12"'s cleaned by air blowing with
compressed air, liquid piping diameter less than 12"s cleaned by water
flushing with raw water.

pipe cleaning from Equipment manufacturers.
5.3 Confirm pipe support tightly and contentious parts must be reinforced.
5.4 Piping or facilities those disallowed sweeping and cleaning must be isolated.
5.5 The components of pipe system, such as gauges, instrumentation items,
orifice plates, injectors, filter elements, solenoid valves, regulating valves,
relief valves, check valves, etc. will be removed and replaced with
temporary spool pieces for sweeping, blowing and flushing. Subsequent to
completion of piping sweeping, cleaning and inspection the removed
components shall be restored,
6.6 Piping sweeping and cleaning shall follow a sequence that mainline then
branch and finally drainage. Dirty flowed out from piping sweeping and
cleaning shall not reenter the system.
5.7 Piping sweeping and cleaning area shall set restricted area and warning line,
hanging warning signs.
5.9 Restoration
After air blowing, the following restoration work shall be done.
1) All temporary equipment and connections shall be dismantled, and the
related flanges are tightened by using service gasket.
2) Allremoved parts and isolated sections shall be reinstalled,
3) Tag numbers and flow direction of all line instruments shall be checked if
they are in proper position.
4) Caution tag shall be completely removed.
5) After total completion of a Pre-Commissioning System Package, the
System will be completely reinstated with final gaskets as per P&ID and
conformity to P&ID check with punch list (if any) will be done.
6 Procedure
6.1 Utility Systems
1) Water Lines
Equipment which is sensitive to damage during water flushing shall be
removed, blocked off or isolated. A list shall be prepared and be part of the
flushing procedure. Ball valves shall be flushed in fully open position. All
piping systems shall be flushed using high pressure [60.8 mPa (8.8 ksi)
minimum] jet such as rotating hose or rotating nozzle. Below 4", use High
Velocity Water Flushing (HVWF). On systems where high pressure jet
