GENERAL INFORMATION

Delta State was created from the then Bendel State 27th August 1991 by the then regime of
General Ibrahim Babangida. Delta State is named after the delta region of the River Niger. It's
capital is Asaba.

Warri is the biggest commercial city in the state. Other major towns are Agbor, Ughelli, Oleh,
Ozoro, Oghara, Sapele, Koko, Burutu, Okpanam and Ogwashi-ukwu. Delta State can be
considered a miniature version of Nigeria, with various ethnic groups.

Delta State shares common boundaries with Edo and Ondo States to the north west, Imo and
Anambra to the north east, Rivers and Bayelsa States to the south east. In the south west and
south it has approximately 122 kilometres of coastline bounded by the Bight of Benin on the
Atlantic ocean.

It is situated in the region known as the South-South geo-political zone with a population of
4,112,445 (males: 2,069,309; females: 2,043,136).[6] The capital city is Asaba, located at the
northern end of the state, with an estimated area of 762 square kilometres (294 sq mi),
while Warri is the economic nerve center of the state and also the most populated. It is located in
the southern end of the state. THE STATE HAS A TOTAL LAND AREA OF 16,842
SQUARE KILOMETRES (6,503 SQ MI).

Warri South is a Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the city
of Warri. Warri, the headquarters of Warri South LGA, is an important sea port in the country
and the commercial nerve centre of the state. The area is predominantly riverine with large
expanses of mangrove forests and has a land area of approximately 1,520 square kilometres. It
harbors many industrial establishments including all the major oil companies operating in
Nigeria and is also home to three different ethnic groups namely Ijaws, Urhobos and Itsekiris [1]
It has an area of 633 km² and a population of 303,417 at the 2006 census.

Headquarters Effurun

Uvwie is one of the twenty-five Local Government Areas (LGA) in Delta State, Nigeria, and one
of the Urhobo Kingdoms. Uvwie also refers to the people and their language. It has a monarch
ruler (The Ovie of Uvwie) who resides at the King palace known as Ovie palace.

Uvwie is located in the area roughly between longitudes 5.40' and 5.50' East of Latitudes 5.30
and 5.50 North. The area is approximately 100 square kilometres and it is bounded by Okpe
Kingdom in the North and Udu and Ughiẹvwen in the North-West, Agbarho kingdom in the
North East, Agbarho-Ame in the East, Okere kingdom in the South and Itsekiri in the South
West.
It is a gateway town in and out of the city of Warri;Also it is a border town to Osubi
Airport in Osubi.
A centre of civilization for the Urhobo people, Effurun is the headquarters of the Uvwie local
government of Delta state, Nigeria.
It is a densely populated region and has many of the city's finest exotic hotels for relaxation such
as Wellington Hotel, Hotel, Excel, Mega Hilton hotel, GT Maines Hotels and Suites, Golden
Tulip Hotel.

WARRI SOUTH WEST LGA
Warri South West is a Local Government Area in Delta State, Nigeria. It was created in 1997
and has its headquarters in the town of Ogbe-Ijoh. It has an estimated land area of 1,722 km² and
a population of 116,681 from the census of 2006 but this population has grown since then.
Warri Southwest is home to the Ijaw and Itsekiri ethnic groups in Delta State. The Ijaw inhabit
Ogbe-ijoh, Gbaramatu, Isaba and diebiri communities while the Itsekiris inhabit the Ugborodo
and Madangho communities. This LGA boasts of some of the largest proven oil and gas reserves
in Delta State and the Niger Delta.
Operation has commenced in the Phase one the Escravos Gas to Liquid project and in March
2015 another $16 Billion gas project was commissioned. In addition, the Nigerian maritime
University will be taking off in Okerenkoko.
In the presence of the wealth of natural resource, the LGA has suffered huge impact of resource
extraction and communal disputes but in the past years it has emerged a state place for business
and development.

WARRI NORTH LGA
Warri North is a Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the
town of Koko. It has an area of 1,841 km² and a population of 137,300 at the 2006 census.
Warri North LGA has its headquarters at Koko, a cosmopolitan town and a sea port.
Conspicuous in the town is the ancient house of Nana Olomu of Itsekiri, who was a major player
in the slave trade business with the Europeans. The LGA is predominantly riverine and is
inhabited by the Itsekiris and Ijaw Izons. The major occupations of the people are fishing,
carving of canoes, net weaving, hunting, clothes dyeing, trading and farming. It is also the
location of a lovely tourist attraction, the floating market at Ogheye.[2]

UDU LGA

Udu is a Local Government Area in Delta State, Nigeria. Udu is one of the Urhobo kingdoms,
and it has its own king, or ovie. It has a population estimate of approximately 100,000 people and
it is about 5 minutes drive away from Warri Airport. Its local government headquarters is Otor-
Udu.

The land is interlocked by rivers flowing across. It has a tropical weather and rain forest with
evergreen vegetation and plantation all year round. Its geographical feature consists of numerous
streams that inter-connect into an intricate web of rivers, lagoons, swamps and wetlands. [1] It is a
boundary town and a suburb of Warri metropolis and is connected from Enerhen by the Udu
Bridge over Warri River.
The villages that makes up of the present Udu local government area are historically grouped
into three sub-clans, namely:
(1) Evwrirhe Sub-clans.
These are the villages and towns: Aladja, Ovwian, Emadadja, Egini, Obubu, Ubogo, Oleri, Oto
Udu, Ogbe Udu, Ukpiovwin, Ukperheren, Ayama, Ekrota, Ugbisi, Owhrode, Ekete Oboto, Ekete
Uburhie, Okolo Uburhie, Okolo Oboto, Ovworhokpokpo, Erhiephiho, Egiegi, Epame, Ujevwu,
Oghior, Ohwase.
(2) Oniere Sub-clan.
These are Orho-Uwherun (Orhuwherun) (Uwherun settlement), Igbogidi, and DSC Township,
new town founded due to the construction of Delta Steel Company (DSC) at Aladja, Steel
Township.
(3) Uheredjo Sub-clans.
These are Opete, Okpaka and Enerhen.
Silica is available in a nearby town for the manufacture of glass and also is crude oil, natural gas
and other minerals for the petrochemical industry.
To the right of the Udu Bridge are the Delta Steel plant, Africa's first direct steel reduction
variety of metallurgy, and Udu market. A Shell gas plant is located Otor-Udu, as well as other
engineering companies.
A railway line constructed by the Federal Government from Itakpe-Ajaokuta to Aladja.
